CAUL AUG 28 - RIGHTFULLY YOURS ADDS TO HIS IMPRESSIVE FIRST-UP RECORD

By Taron Clarke | Sunday, August 29, 2010

Caulfield, August 28, 2010.
Track - Slow 7. Rail - out 10.0m. Penetrometer 5.88.
Clamms Seafood Stakes (Listed - 4YO+ SW+P) - 1100m.
Time: 1-05.42. (Carrying 56.5kg).
1 Rightfully Yours; 2 Stanzout; 3 Returntosender.

Rightfully Yours added to his already impressive first-up record with a rousing win at Caulfield on Saturday. Rightfully Yours, who now has a first up record of eight starts for five wins and a second, will be restricted to the sprinting distances this campaign after showing a distinct liking to racing off a short let up.

The full brother to Heart Of Dreams, Dreams To Silk and Dreams To Life, Rightfully Yours was able to take his prize money to in excess of $500,000 with the victory. Glen Boss made the most of a rare ride for the Price stable giving the son of Show a Heart a beautiful run in transit.

The starter released the field in a beautiful line and the first horse into stride was Solchow for Peter Mertens. Here De Angels was the favourite for the feature sprint, and he was well away at barrier rise and settled inside of Solchow in the early stages.

Out wide on the track the ever consistent Stanzout was quickly into stride and Craig Williams had the ghostly grey out looking to slot in closer to the fence from his outside barrier draw of twelve.

Pushing up between runners was the Mark Riley trained Gold In Dubai for jockey Mark Pegus. Racing just off the leaders was Rightfully Yours. The son of Show a Heart was quickly into stride and Glen Boss settled the gelding in fifth position three lengths off the leader in what was a bunched field.

Racing towards the rear of the field was the Group One winning mare Headway and trailing her one length astern was stablemate Returntosender. The speed was only fair, and this saw the field race in a compact manner with only seven lengths covering the field of eleven runners.

As the field approached the 600 metre mark Solchow held supremacy in front by a length over Here De Angels racing on the inside of Gold In Dubai and caught three deep was Stanzout who was backing up after a win at Moonee Valley the week before.

Trailing these three was Rightfully Yours for Boss. The Mick Price trained galloper was receiving a glorious run in transit and with his impressive first up record looked certain to play a major hand in the finish, even this far from home.

The short course sprinters commenced the turn for home and Solchow steered a course four horse off the fence. Gold in Dubai had switched to the inside of Solchow’s heels and saved ground nearer to the inside with the favourite Here De Angels.

Craig Williams on Stanzout let his mount slide up outside of Solchow and these two raced together as the field entered the early part of the straight.

Towards the rear of the field a few of the jockeys were asking their mounts to make ground on the leaders. The first runner to peel out and come with a run was the Peter Moody trained Headway. On her outside was the stablemate Returntosender, and these two gallopers were spotting the leader Solchow five lengths start.

Hard up against the inside of the track Here De Angels was being urged along under hard hands and heels riding from jockey Michael Rodd. On his outside was Gold in Dubai who was also being pushed along to maintain his position.

Pushing up and between Solchow and Gold in Dubai was Glen Boss’ mount Rightfully Yours. Boss had managed to secure a lovely run trailing the speed and was presented with a run shortly after straightening.

Solchow held a half-length margin over Stanzout on her outside and racing through on her immediate inside was Rightfully Yours. These three horses held a two length margin over the remainder of the field who was headed by the Moody runners Headway and Returntosender out wide on the track as the field thundered past the 300 metre mark. Favourite Here De Angels was dropping out of the race after racing on the inferior going throughout.

Craig Williams and Stanzout raced to a slender margin at the 200 metre mark and Williams had a couple of looks over his right hand shoulder looking for the challengers. What he didn’t realise was the danger and immediate challenger was to his inside and that was Rightfully Yours.

Glen Boss had given the Mick Price trained gelding a beautiful run and when the run presented itself at the top of the straight Boss drove the six year old through the gap to challenge the leaders.

Solchow had had enough at the 100 metre mark, and this saw Rightfully Yours and Stanzout clear by three lengths to Returntosender. In a driving run to the finish, the smoother run in transit showed as Rightfully Yours was able to edge clear of Stanzout who had raced wide throughout.

Rightfully Yours was able to nab Stanzout over the concluding stages and held a margin of a short neck over the consistent grey Stanzout in second placing with a further two and three-quarter lengths back to Returntosender in third position.

Of the horses that finished outside of the money the Lee Freedman trained Electromotive caught the eye making excellent ground late to finish fourth.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Mick Price: “If the track had of been on top of the ground on a good track, the 1100 metres, he would have been vulnerable … so the soft track probably helped him a bit … a bit slower sectionals, but he copped a nice ride and he’s a really nice horse fresh. I just want to keep him in the nice races without getting too excited about him.

“He has actually gone to a mile. He actually ran in a Railway Handicap one year and he ran fifth or sixth there, but we will keep away from the mile and just keep him fresh now. He is a nice horse fresh so we will just space his runs out and try and pick the eyes out of them.

“Bossy’s there riding work all the time and I’m just happy to get him on the nice horses every now and again.”

Jockey Glen Boss: “Cantering down to the barriers I said to Michael Rodd ‘This horse has got his game face on’. He just felt amazing going to the barriers so you just know that he is really here to have a fight.
“It was a pleasure to ride him. It was pretty well a sit and steer job. He jumped in a good spot, travelled like the winner the whole way and when I asked him, he quickened nicely and beat a horse that’s in great form and sprinting really well in Stanzout…..so hopefully he’s going to have a really nice preparation, because it was probably short of his best first up.

“Unfortunately that was where I had to go, I couldn’t come out from behind Stanzout and come around him because Craig sort of had me in a spot there but look I always felt as though I was going to win the race.

“Stanzout is a very good sprinter, but this horse has got very good qualities He is bordering on being a very good Group horse so I thought I had them covered.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Rightfully Yours): 6.00 out to 6.50.
Favourite Here De Angels 3.80. Finished last.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT: Here De Angels was fractious in the barriers prior to the start.

Inside the final 50m Rightfully Yours, which was shifting out under pressure, bumped Stanzout.

M Pegus (Gold In Dubai) was fined the sum of $200 in accordance with the provisions of AR145 for returning to scale in excess of ½ kg over his declared riding weight. In arriving at this penalty Stewards took into account that he had recently breached this rule.

After the running of the race the Club’s veterinary surgeon reported that Sarge In Charge had bled from both nostrils and will now incur the mandatory three month suspension from racing.

M Rodd (Here De Angels) could offer no excuses for the disappointing performance of the gelding today, other than it may not have handled the track conditions today. A post-race veterinary examination of Here De Angels failed to reveal any abnormalities.

C Newitt (Nine Tales) reported that his mount failed to handle the track conditions today.
