CAUL SEPT 18 - LIVE IN SIN STARTS THE BALL ROLLING FOR MOODY AND NOLEN

By Taron Clarke | Sunday, September 19, 2010

Caulfield, September 18, 2010.
Track - Good 3. Rail - True. Penetrometer 5.04.
4YO + Mares Handicap - 1400m.
Time: 1-21.73. 600m Sectional: 35.25. (Carrying 53kg).
1 Live in Sin; 2 Select; 3 Zantelagh.
Margins: 0.8L x 1.0L.

Caulfield trainer Peter Moody and stable rider Luke Nolen combined to win three consecutive races on their home track on Saturday afternoon and the first of their winners was by highballing mare Live in Sin.

Sent out the punters elect in the field of nine mares, Nolen had no hesitation in sending the daughter of Noverre straight to the front over the 1400 metre course.

Nolen was content to let Live in Sin roll along at a solid clip and that duo held out a two length margin to Select in second position as the field raced down the railway side of the track.

Mark Kavanagh’s well bred mare Zantelagh, who was slow to jump at barrier rise, settled in last position some twelve lengths off the leader as the field commenced the turn for home.

Rounding the turn, Nolen urged the favourite along and she railed clear to hold a two length margin over Select who had followed her through. The remainder of the field, which was headed by Sneaky Tsu, were battling.

Jockey Luke Nolen called on Live in Sin at the 200 metre mark and she responded well to hold out Select over the final stages, with Zantelagh rocketing to the line to score third placing, under two lengths from the winner.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Peter Moody: “She’s a funny thing. she has got nice ability this mare but she just won’t race with horses around her and hence the reason she has got to be clear of the pack or on the outside.

“As soon as she gets covered up she tends to dig her toes in, so thankfully she was able to stay clear of them.

“It’s no easy task to be out there in front, having to rate them along. She was able to do enough to keep clear and keep enough in the tank to hold on.

“Her last run was terrific in Stakes company so this looked a nice race for her and thankfully the fence … certainly there were no issues being there, where a few of her previous runs she’s had to get out off the fence and that is a very hard task if they’ve got to lead off the fence.

“She will just chip away at the mares races. She’s Stakes placed last time so if we could make her a Stakes winner it would be a massive bonus.

“She’s got a good pedigree and a very good winning family.

“We won’t be unrealistic, but if we can find another mare’s seven furlong here in a few weeks’ time we will be more than happy.”

Jockey Luke Nolen: “She doesn’t like horses around her. She won nicely first-up, but a few runs after that she was having a bludge when she was beaten.

"We set alight her three runs ago she ran out of condition. Pete (Moody) was spot on…..he put the work into her and she has run two good races since.

“You just ride her to travel on the bit. Don’t pull her round too much and you ride her to skip off that corner … that’s all you can do on her and I didn’t bugger it up!

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Live in Sin): 4.00 in to 3.30.
The winner was the favourite.

Horse to follow: Zantelagh was clearly the eye-catcher in this event, motoring to the line late over an unsuitable journey. This Zabeel mare will improve as the distances increase and she will be better suited where she can position up closer to the speed.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Zantelagh was slow to begin.

Music In The Park raced wide without cover in the early and middle stages. C Symons (Music In The Park) reported that his mount hung in quite badly for the last half of the race. A veterinary examination of Music In The Park revealed no abnormalities.

After passing the 700m, Platinum Passion shifted out abruptly, making contact with Charlie’s Queen and forcing that mare wider on the track before Platinum Passion shifted back in behind Sneaky Tsu after passing the 600m.

In the early part of the straight, Ocean Challenger was held up when disappointed for a clear run between Music In The Park and Sneaky Tsu, which shifted in slightly after Sneaky Tsu was brushed on the hindquarters by Ocean Challenger. Ocean Challenger continued to be held up until near the 100m.

C Williams (Platinum Passion) reported that his mount raced very greenly throughout the race.

Charlie’s Queen raced wide without cover. A post-race veterinary examination of Charlie’s Queen revealed no abnormalities.
