COYLE’S HORSES CONTINUE TO FIRE

By Graham Potter | Monday, June 22, 2009

Trainer Jason Coyle’s horses have thrived in Queensland. Soiled underlined that fact by landed his second Listed race win of the campaign under a finely judged ride by Peter Robl.

The duo fought off the persistent challenge of Barlinnie to score by a little over a length-and-a-quarter in the Classic Mile in the last race at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

One race earlier, the Coyle/Robl combination had finished third with their $51 outsider Subtle Cove in the Group 1 Winter Stakes behind the Cummings family quinella (Russeting and Prima Nova), so their adrenaline was running high right until the close of the meeting.

Soiled was Robl’s second winner on the day, the rider having scored earlier on the Danny Williams trained gelding Samtheflirt in the third race on the card.

Classic Mile (Quality - Listed) - 1600m. Time: 1-34.71.
1 Soiled; 2 Barlinnie; 3 Dorabella
Track - Good 3; Rail - out 1m.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Jason Coyle: “My horses are really thriving up here. Can we extend the carnival a bit longer? No seriously they are doing outstanding work. The race went right according to plan ... it was spot on. The mare (Subtle Cove) drew well in the Group 1. Barrier one was perfect for her and barrier eleven was perfect for Soiled. He loves being outside things and just hates getting in amongst them. It might have looked like a contest in the straight, but I think he had them beat at the 600m. If he comes through it alright there is a 1500m race in Sydney in a couple of weeks.”

Jockey Peter Robl: “The plan was to sit outside the leader or even lead on the horse but this thing came around us and we had to take a sit. You know, we wanted to wait for as long as we could to make sure he ran the mile out. We got to wait until the 250m, then he ran the mile out strongly. You know he is a good tough bugger on his day. The other won (Barlinnie) did give a bit of cheek trying to come back on the inside, but I was always confident we had that one covered. I thought if we were going to get beat it would be something coming down the outside, you know. But nobody came and we won. The more mature he gets the better he gets at it. He proved today he could run a strong mile so that’s one more piece of ammo he has got in his armoury, so to speak.

“He’s been pretty lightly raced. He’s been well managed. Since Jason (Coyle) has had him he’s done a good job. It’s good to come up here and ride a winner for Les and Donna. You know their mare ran a third in the Group 1, so it’s been a good day for them.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
