WARRIOR HEAD WINS WITH AUTHORITY AT GATTON

Warrior Head claimed a second career win when proving too strong for his opposition in a Class 1 Plate over 1400m at Gatton on September 25.
The form of the four-year-old son of Headwater was not particularly inspiring with three unplaced runs leading into his Gatton assignment, but he was building race fitness after resuming in the first of those runs from a four-and-a-half month break and a subtle step up in distance here also seemed to serve his purpose.
Jumping as the $3.20 favourite under Justin Huxtable, Warrior Head landed in the leading line at the break and pressed forward to hold second place briefly, before settling down in third spot, racing a comfortable two lengths off the leader, a position Huxtable was content to hold all the way to the approach to the home turn.
That’s when Huxtable put his foot on the accelerator and Warrior Head responded on cue, bounding forward to spear into the lead as the field straightened for home. Warrior Head then sustained that run all the way down the home straight letting nobody else into the race as he strode away under the usual vigorous ride from Huxtable to secure the result long before he crossed the line with Huxtable then able to relax and ride hands and heels over the concluding stages.
