NOT THE EASIEST OF PASSAGES BUT KEEP IT LOKI GETS THE JOB DONE FIR TEAM SEARS AT LISMORE

By Graham Potter | Monday, November 10, 2025

A BM58 Handicap over 1526m at Lismore on November 10 provided the Headwater gelding Keep It Loki with the opportunity to put his second career win on the scoreboard which he did by keeping the second favourite Warrior Bae at bay by a 0.29 length margin in a driving finish which saw less than two lengths cover the first four runners across the line.

The four-year-old, who as ridden by Bella Youngberry, had finished unplaced in his last two runs over 1400m and 1350m respectively, and a subtle step up in distance to the 1526m trip, and the fact that he had steadily been building race fitness over four previous runs in this preparation, was enough to give the Sears trained runner the winning edge when it mattered here.

It turned out to be a pretty impressive win in the end.
Keep It Loki went back to last, racing all of eight lengths off the leader in the early part … and Youngberry was more than happy to allow King Of Loki to have ‘some down time all the way until approaching the 600m mark, at which time she asked King Of Loki to gradually start making up ground.

And she picked up the tempo even more on the sweep to the home turn and was very much closer now, but four-wide on straightening, in sixth place, with a line of horses in front of her.

King Of Loki made little progress in the first half of the home straight but, racing with his head out to one side while Youngberry evaluated which run to take … until Youngberry followed King Of Loki’s cue, managed to extricate King Of Loki from a dead-end, switch around heels and angle her mount out into clear running as the widest runner on the track.

That delay left King Of Loki still with five lengths to make up and six horses to pass … all to be achieved with a little over 200m left to run, but King Of Loki was up to the task, rattling home with meaning to ultimately score a finely judged win.
