YELLOW BRICK HEADING HOME TO THE GOLD COAST AFTER A FOUR RACE SYDNEY CAMPAIGN

By Graham Potter | Saturday, October 18, 2025

After having had two unplaced, but fair enough runs, in Group 3 company in Sydney … in the Show County and the Bill Richie … the Tony and Maddysen Sears training partnership were happy to follow their original schedule and push on to the $1,5 million Group 1 Epsom with Yellow Brick … with one run being added on the campaign after that with Yellow Brick also heading to the $5 million Group 1 King Charles 111 Stakes at Randwick on Everest Day two weeks later.

In essence these two runs would represent the toughest tests face by Yellow Brick in his career.

The Epsom field included the unbeaten Autumn Glow, who went into the race with six wins from his six starts.

Nobody was really expected to get close to the Chris Waller trained runner in the October 4 contest, with the mare starting at the prohibitive odds of $1.75, and that’s the way the race panned out with Autumn Glow winning the Epsom as she liked by a comfortable 1.44 length margin from the useful Fully Lit ($31) with Pericles ($7.50) and Swift Falcon ($13) finishing in third place and fourth place respectively.

Yellow Brick, who went off at the longest priced runner at $91, finished unplaced but, again, was not disgraced when coming home less than three lengths behind the second placed runner, finishing in a tightly bunched pack of horses which saw only 2.50 lengths separating the runners finishing from fourth to eleventh place.

Yellow Brick’s effort was as honest as you could hope for.

Again, in the $5 million Group 1 King Charles111 Stakes, there was a lot for Yellow Blick to take on … with the list of opponents looking like a who’s who of top tier performers.

Mr Brightside, Tom Kitten, Fangirl, Pride Of Jenni and the winner of the 2024 edition of the race Ceolwulf, to name a few, were all there to face the starter and, in a terrific performance, it was the self-same Ceolwulf who carried the day at double figure odds of $10 to claim notable back-to-back victories in the race when beating Mr Brightside by 1.77 lengths.

For Yellow Brick, it really was a case of more of the same … a game enough run showing that he was not out of place racing at the elite level, but just coming up three lengths short of the desired result.

The merit of the run was there for all to see though with Yellow Brick only finishing 0.10 lengths behind Fangirl and right alongside Pride Of Jenni while carrying 2kg more than both of those runners who are absolute superstars on their day.

Yellow Brick would now make the trip home for a well earned rest.
