IJC IS DONE AND DUSTED - NOW MOVING ON TO THE FOUR GROUP 1 INTERNATIONAL RACES AT SHA TIN ON SUNDAY
By Tim Clayton | Thursday, December 11, 2025
With the LONGINES International Jockeys’ Championship (IJC) now decided — an outstanding performance by the winner Ryan Moore representing Great Britain — the focus shifts to the biggest stage of all.
The LONGINES Hong Kong International Races (HKIR), set for Sunday 14 December, is the culmination of a premier racing week presented by the Hong Kong Jockey Club — and the crown jewel of the 2025 racing calendar.
The stage could not be more perfectly set with Ideal weather conditions predicted, record crowds expected at Sha Tin, in a world class arena buzzing with anticipation Overseas horses, trainers, jockeys, and connections will have timed their preparations carefully to have their runners peak at just the right moment — because this is the day that matters most.
Why the attraction to race in Hong Kong?
Quite simply — the prize money is extraordinary.
The 2025 HKIR will offer a total of HK$130 million, an increase of HK$4 million on last year’s purse. When the stakes are this high — the world takes notice, so it is not surprising that, as always, challengers are coming from every corner of the globe
The feature races are all Group 1 events:
The LONGINES Hong Kong Vase – race 4 of the program (HK$26 million prize money). The LONGINES Hong Kong Sprint – race 5 (HK$28 million prize money). The LONGINES Hong Kong Mile – race 7 (HK$36 million prize money). The LONGINES Hong Kong Cup – race 8 (HK$40 million prize money).
With glory, prestige, and life-changing prize money on the line, every runner will be giving their absolute best. This is racing at its fiercest — and finest.
The question remains … who will stand tallest at Sha Tin?
Will Hong Kong’s home heroes defend their turf — or will the international raiders claim bragging rights for 2025?
The stage is set. The world is watching.
Let the racing begin - and I will be there for HRO Australia
