FLEM NOV 04 - WHO’S READY BOLTS IN AND BREAKS MAIDEN STATUS

By Taron Clarke | Sunday, November 7, 2010

Flemington, November 4, 2010.
Track - Heavy 8. Rail - Out 6m. Penetrometer: 5.02.
The G.H. Mumm Stakes 3YO Fillies SW+P - 1700m.
Time: 1-44.89. 600m Sectional: 35.60. (Carrying 55kg).
1 Who’s Ready; 2 Count Your Fingers; 3 Sean Baile Mor.
Margins: 3.8L x 3.7L

Newcastle trainer Alan Scorse maintained his unbeaten Flemington record when maiden galloper Who’s Ready scored an easy victory on VRC Oaks day.

Scorse had previously scored on VRC Oaks day two years earlier when Looking Fur Lang took out the all greys race on the card.

The pair were later unsuccessful in scoring a second win in the event with Looking Fur Lang finishing a disappointing eleventh after being well supported late in betting, firming from 17.00 into start 10.00.

Who’s Ready was ridden by jockey Michael Rodd after the hoop picked up the ride for injured Blake Shinn.

For Shinn, it was the second consecutive winner on the day that he was replaced on after Status Symbol won the race before for Craig Newitt.

After only five racetrack starts with four minor placing’s, Who’s Ready got up to a distance she appreciated and broke her maiden status in emphatic fashion.

Passed in for $55,000 at the 2009 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, the daughter of More Than Ready has now won $78,330 and more than justified her trainers’ decision to bring her to Melbourne.

Who’s Ready scored by a widening three and three quarter lengths over Count Your Fingers with a similar margin back to Sean Baile Mor in third.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Alan Scorse: “It's been great … two starters at Flemington for two winners ... couldn't be better.

“She's always shown this much ability and I was never worried about bringing her here for this race.

I'd set for it at the start of the preparation and everything's come to fruition.

“She’d run on a very fast track at Rosehill last start and she jarred up a little bit, but she loves the wet track so we got her here on the right day.

“That was her first step up to 1700 metres. They went along at a good speed and she relaxed really good behind them.

“We just had to get the right race and this is the race. I had her tuned for since she started this preparation … everything's turned out good for us.

“She'll go to the paddock and then I'll set her for the Oaks next year in Sydney.”

Jockey Michael Rodd: “My instructions were don't get to the front too soon … but we went three-quarter pace to the turn.

“She's a quite a nice filly. She's a big strong thing. I gave her a nice long rein on her and she gave me a great feel.

“Al (Scorse) just said that she hasn't had a lot of luck the last few runs. She's been stuck on the fence and being a big filly like that she didn't like it … so once she got into clear running there she really accelerated away from them.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Who’s Ready): 8.00 out to 11.00.
Favourite (Very Cherry): 4.40 out to 4.60. Finished fourth.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Who’s Ready shifted a plate after arriving on course and had to be re-shod. Who’s Ready was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and passed suitable to race.

Prior to the horses leaving the mounting yard connections advised Stewards that Very Cherry would be ridden back in an attempt to finish the race off. Very Cherry was ridden accordingly.

Near the 1500m Lalla Rookh was checked between Count Your Fingers and Queen’s Fashion which was tightened for room and taken in by Very Cherry. The reason for this being that Ain’tnofallenstar went for a doubtful run between Very Cherry and Serene Tanie which was progressing across.

Whilst the Stewards felt there were some contributing circumstances, D Nikolic rider of Ain’tnofallenstar was issued with a severe reprimand for failing to exercise more care particularly towards Very Cherry (C Brown).

Inside the 400m Queen’s Fashion was held up for clear running until after passing the 300m.

N Hall reported at scale that God Help Her was inclined to lay out throughout.

A post race veterinary examination of God Help Her revealed no abnormalities.

C Williams reported that in his opinion Queen Commander felt sore and a subsequent veterinary examination after the race revealed no abnormalities.

The track was upgraded from Heavy 8 to Slow 7 after the running of this race at 12.45pm.
