700-UP FOR DAVID HAYES

By Graham Potter | Thursday, January 29, 2026

Trainer David Hayes has been riding on the crest of the Ka Ying Rising wave for some time now, with his management of the Hong Kong superstar being perfectly in tune with what is required to maximise the gelding’s strengths in terms of his ability, while, at the same time, also ensuring that his star performer remains happy and healthy.

No matter how good any horse is, that is not a balance that is easily achieved.

And while Hayes has been doing that, he has also been taking care of all levels of his training business and clocking up new, significant milestones along the way … as he did once again at Happy Valley on Wednesday night where he saddled two winners on the card and took his total number of winners in Hong Kong to seven hundred.

The double also took Hayes to within one win (behind Mark Newnham) of the top of this season’s Trainer’s Championship … a fact which, perhaps more than anything else, underlines what a good season the Hayes yard is having.

Hayes, who was inducted into reg Australian Racing Hall Of Fame in 2008, previously won the Hong Kong Trainers’ Championship (back-to-back) in 1997/98 and 1998/99.
