SUPREMACY STAKES WILL POSE A GOOD TEST FOR EMERGING TWO-YEAR-OLDS AT ASCOT

The Listed Supremacy Stakes, a 1000m contest for two-year-olds at Ascot on Saturday, will further test the credentials of a couple of smart debut winners … He’s A Machino and Arum Belle … while All On Red, who won his first two starts before having his colours lowered in his last start, will be looking to bounce back to winning form, first-up after a three-and-a-half month layoff.
The current betting suggests that the Neville Parnham trained Arum Belle could have the edge.
Marked up as the race favourite at $2.05, the daughter of Snitzel backed up her jump out and trail wins with an emphatic victory by a two length margin when given her first taste of race action in a Two-Year-Old Plate over 1000m on February 28.
She showed good gate speed there to get to the front early and she remained strong all the way to the home turn, before turning up the heat on her opposition in the home straight where her powerful stride allowed her to pull clear to score in fluent style under Brad Parnham.
It was a very positive first step towards repaying her $725 000 purchase price.
The Sean and Jake Casey trained He’s a Machino, currently quoted at $3, is Arum Belle’s market rival.
Even though it is very much early days, He’s A Machino has followed a similar path to Arum Belle, winning two trials and then saluting at his first race start which came in the $125 000 Platinum Plate over 1000m on December 20.
In that run, He’s a Machino tracked the leader to the home turn in second place, before William Pike urged the colt into the lead on straightening. Wolf Whistle quickly ranged alongside He’s A Machino and these two runners then joined issue, matching strides until He’s A Machino proved to be the stronger of the two over the final 120m.
Like the effort of Arum Belle, it was eye-catching win … and these two runners could well be on a collision path as they try to maintain their unbeaten status.
One point of difference is that Arum Belle is three weeks between runs, while He’s a Machino will be first-up following a three month layoff.
Brad Parnham will ride Arum Belle. Chris Parnham will ride He’s A Machino.
Of the remaining six runners, the two-time winner All On Red ($6.50) is the only other runner quoted at under $11.
