THUNDERING ON POWERS HOME IN THE EPSOM OAKS

The Joseph O’Brien trained Thundering On gave her field a galloping lesson in the Group 1 Epsom Oaks which was contested over 2400m.
The win could not have been more emphatic with Dylan Brown-McMonagle guiding Thundering On to a clearcut, four length victory ahead of Legacy Link with the magnitude of the Thundering On’s effort being emphasised by the fact that there was a further six lengths back to the third placed Sugar Island.
The race favourite, the Aidan O’Brien trained Amelia Earhart, flailed to flatter and was beaten out of the placings.
Thundering On was sent out at a starting price of $5, which turned out to be very generous odds as she improved her record to two wins and two places from five starts … in the process earning favouritism for the Irish Oaks which will be run at The Curragh on July 18.
"This is really special," O’Brien told The Racing Post. "It's hard to find horses with the ability to head to a Classic with a legitimate chance. She was very impressive and it was an easy watch from the turn-in.
“She's done nothing wrong throughout her whole career. You never expect to win a Classic like that and she looks like she could potentially be a special filly."
“Hopefully she pulls up well and we can make a plan for the rest of the season after that. Her dam won the Pretty Polly, so she can go back for that, or the Irish Oaks - the world is her oyster.
“I suppose our main question mark coming here was whether she would stay or not. We knew she was very talented, but her dam didn't stay further than ten furlongs.
“But this filly is by Frankel, so we decided to save as much energy as we could on the climb and then see what happened on the straight.
“She came alive at the bottom of the straight and won very impressively.”
