EF MAR 5 - STEEL ZIP STEPS UP TO THE MARK

By Graham Potter | Monday, March 7, 2011

Eagle Farm, March 5, 2011.
Track - Heavy 10. Rail - out 4.5m.
QTIS 3yo Handicap - 1200m.
1 Steel Zip; 2 Skating On Ice; 3 Wild Promises.
Time: 1-12.99. (Carrying 54.5kg). Last 600m: 36.87.
Margins: 1.25. Long-neck.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Pat Duff: “He probably needed a bit of soft ground. They’ve been getting away a bit on him on the faster tracks.

“He’s had six starts and he’s earned money every time he’s raced, so he wasn’t a bad buy for $13 000 was he?

Jockey Mandy Radecker: “Yeah, he got through the ground lovely.

“He jumped out. He travelled nice. I know he will be getting more ground in the future, so I was happy to just let him be where he was comfortable because I was confident he would get through the ground on his breeding and I did think he was possibly one of the better horses in the run … so I just had to rely on his honesty … have him where he was happy … and still win.

“He is still very much a gangly sort of horse. He’ll improve a lot because he is still very green.

“In some of his previous runs he wanted to get off the track … things like that. When he matures and gets much stronger he’ll be lovely.

“I pleased … especially after Pat’s results for the rest of the day. I would have been letting the team down otherwise.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Steel Zip): 3.40 out to 4.00.
The winner was the favourite.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Prince Liam (S. Bogenhuber) was slow to begin.

Steel Zip (M. Radecker) raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 200m between Wild Promises (J. Bowditch) and Zaharakis (R. McMahon), which shifted out under pressure.

Pixiu (M. Wood), Skating On Ice (M. Cahill) and Devinardi (J. Holder) all raced wide throughout.
