DOOM MAR 12 - ACQUIRED HITS A HOME RUN

By Graham Potter | Monday, March 14, 2011

Doomben, March 12, 2011.
Track - Dead 4. Rail - Out 2m (1200 - 900). Out 1m the remainder.
Class 6 Handicap (Four-year-olds and up) - 1615m.
1 Acquired; 2 Newsnight; 3 Fiori.
Time: 1-36.93. (Carrying 58kg). Last 600m: 35.29.
Margins: 2.75; 0.75.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Robert Heathcote: “The 1615m did worry me a bit to be honest, but when Lisa and Glenn (Morton) sent me this mare to train I said to them, it’s by O’Reilly … has she ever been tried over a bit of ground?

“We tried her over 1400, but … you know people will think, oh listen to him bullshitting … she has been on nothing but wet tracks. It hasn’t stopped raining since August.

“We took her down to Melbourne to get away from the rain and it did nothing but rain down there.

“Now we got her up to a mile on a good track and she has bolted in carrying 58kg … so, she is a good mare and she has been damned unlucky.

“She deserved that today!

“It’s good for Bobby El-Issa as well. That was a ten out of ten ride. Outside alley … he had her sixth or seventh on the fence.

“About 700 out I said, how far is she going to win by? She was really travelling.

“I notice there a little celebratory wave there at the end which might cost Bobby a few quid. It’s good to see him back. He’s been under a lot of pressure.”

Jockey Bobby El-Issa: “She won well. We had 58 today and a bad barrier.

“It was the first time over a mile and everybody was questioning it, but I was very confident.

“It was a good win for me. My close friends own it and I have been trying my guts out for two-and-a-half years to win on her, so it feels pretty good.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Acquired): 6.00 out to 12.00.
Favourite (Newsnight): 4.20 out to 4.60 in to 4.20. Finished second.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
J. Holder was fined $100 under AR. 85B for accepting dual engagements on Oscar The Great and Noisy Scooter. E. Wilkinson was substituted as the rider of Noisy Scooter.

Connections advised that it is their intention to have Acquired (B. El-Issa) ridden in a handy position today if possible. The horse was ridden accordingly.

Near the 1100m Noisy Scooter (E. Wilkinson) commenced to over-race and when being steadied from the heels of Sinful Warrior (M. Hellyer) shifted out hampering Duel Show (S. Seamer).

Oscar The Great (J. Holder) raced wide throughout.

Between the 300m and the 200m Flypass (J. Wood) was inconvenienced and forced to race in restricted room between Noisy Scooter and Forever More (Matthew Palmer), which was gradually shifting out when being tested by its rider.

S. Seamer reported that Duel Show had a tendency to hang out throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination of Duel Show revealed no significant findings.

B. El-Issa, the rider of Acquired, was fined $200 under AR. 137(c) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post.
