DOOM MAR 12 - AGENT BLUE SCORES GUTSY WIN

By Graham Potter | Monday, March 14, 2011

Doomben, March 12, 2011.
Track - Good 3. Rail - Out 2m (1200 - 900). Out 1m the remainder.
No Metro Wins Handicap (C, G & E - Special conditions) - 1350m.
1 Agent Blue; 2 Bootooloo; 3 Supreme Affair.
Time: 1-20.19. (Carrying 54.5kg). Last 600m: 35.11.
Margins: 0.50; Short-head.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Peter Fleming: “It was a strong win. He missed the start and got back too far … yeah, he stood in the barriers at the start, but he fought his way back from there.

“It’s been a while since he raced. The horse has just progressed as he has gone along. He is a December foal … a late maturing horse. He is going really well and he will only get better.

“I think he’s got a lot more wins in him. It might not be here (in town) all the time but I think he’ll do well.”

Jockey Jason Kropp: “I was just told to get up there and, you know, lead … or if someone goes to crazy just to sit inside the leaders sort of thing.

“Once Kelvin (Wharton, riding God’s Window) went I just sat in behind him and trailed him beautifully.

“Once we came around that turn, we just popped off and hit the line good. I knew they were coming at me at the end, but we had it won.”

“There was fluke about the win. He’s been working well.

“That’s my second city winner. The first one was Craiglea Falcon.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Agent Blue): 15.00 out to 19.00 in to 13.00.
Favourite (Golden Cash): 2.70 in to 2.60 out to 2.80. Finished eighth.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Trainer G. Heinrich was fined $200 under LR. 67 for failing to declare R. McMahon as the rider of Falls Creek by the prescribed time.

Agent Blue (J. Kropp) and Lezant (Matthew Palmer) were slow to begin.

Supreme Affair (P. Hammersley) jumped awkwardly, shifted in and hampered Rattle ‘N' Run (D. Browne).

G. Colless reported that shortly before the start was effected Golden Cash lunged forward at the barriers and as a result was slow to begin, and a short distance after the start was tightened for room between Agent Blue and Prince Lionheart (J. Wood), which shifted out after blundering on jumping away.

Azzura Bay (B. El-Issa) over-raced in the early stages and for some distance passing the 1200m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Primed (S. Seamer).

Supreme Affair, Primed, Paris Boy (B. Stewart) and Just The Rock (J. Holder) raced wide throughout.
