DOOM MAR 16 - TESTA RENAYA ON THE SCOREBOARD

By Graham Potter | Thursday, March 17, 2011

Doomben, March 16, 2011.
Track - Good 3, Rail - out 3m (1000m to 375m). Out 1m - remainder.
Maiden Plate (Fillies & Mares - Set weights) - 1200m.
1 Testa Renaya; 2 Starlistic; 3 Tycoon Stella.
Time: 1-10.30. (Carrying 55kg). Last 600m: 34.95.
Margins: 1.50; Neck.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Col Williamson: “I’m having a wonderful run.

“She took a while to pick up in the straight, but that because she’s a ten furlong horse.

“She should have won a race last time in. I could have won a 2000m race but … it was my fault … I put her over 2400m instead to see if she could really run it out.

“I’ve got a bit of an opinion of this filly. I might even look at the Oaks this year. She is really lovely filly.

“We bought her at the Magic Millions … yeah, for a bit of money. The Huddy’s bought her. I’ve got lovely horses from them.

“I’ve never had this sort of quality of horse in my stable in my life. Not since I worked for Tommy Smith have I dealt with the sort of quality I’ve got now.

Interestingly enough, I shied away from this horse initially because she has got a line around her back leg.

“I shied away from it because I thought it was a wire cut, but they said, no, it was where the cord was around her when she was born and they had to take it off with a scalpel. So I was good with that.”

Jockey Jim Byrne: “I rode her last time in and she was a real nice horse. I thought she’d go really nice in a race like the Oaks sort of thing.

“She just stays all day. She is very relaxed … takes things in her stride.

“It was a nice win today over what was probably not her right distance.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Testa Renaya): 3.80 in to 3.00.
The winner was the equal favourite.
Equal favourite (Tiyatro): 2.50 out to 3.00. Finished eighth.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
She's Candy was declared a late scratching at 12.52 p.m. after the horse was injured en route to the track.

Apprentice O. Turpin, the rider of Tycoon Stella, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that a short distance after the start he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Star Giggle (Matthew Palmer), resulting in that horse being taken in on to Flying Archangel (B. Stewart), which in turn was taken in on to Ivors Girl (D. Browne), which had to be checked.

Apprentice O. Turpin's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, to commence at midnight on Sunday, 20 March, and expire at midnight on Thursday, 31 March 2011.

Starlistic (L. Cassidy) raced three wide throughout.

Approaching the 300m Haven Princess (J. Wood) shifted out making contact with Flying Archangel (B. Stewart).

Twenty Two Carat (J. Bowditch) was held up for clear running until a point nearing the 200m.

Stewards sought an explanation from J. Holder in respect to the seemingly disappointing performance of his mount Tiyatro.

J. Holder stated that Tiyatro enjoyed a nice run behind the leaders and whilst he was held up in the early part of the straight and disappointed for a run to the inside of Starlistic near the 300m, he was quite disappointed in the filly's effort over the concluding stages after having obtained clear running.

J. Holder advised stewards that after discussions with trainer T. Gollan he was of the view that the addition of blinkers at the horse's next start may be of benefit.

A post-race veterinary examination of Heart Scent (G. Colless) revealed the filly had sustained lacerations to the off-hind leg, consistent with being galloped on, and had lost its off-hind plate.

A post-race veterinary examination of Lonely Girl (C. Munce), which tailed off, revealed no abnormality. Trainer G. Heinrich was advised that Lonely Girl must barrier trial prior to its next start.

B. Stewart, the rider of Flying Archangel, was reprimanded under AR. 137(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race.
