EF MAR 19 - MACHINATION COMES GOOD

By Graham Potter | Monday, March 21, 2011

Eagle Farm, March 19, 2011.
Track - Heavy 8. Rail - out 6.5m.
Class 6 Handicap - 1400m.
1 Machination; 2 Heartshaker; 3 Kimberley Kid.
Time: 1-27.41. (Carrying 52kg). Last 600m: 37.72.
Margins: 1.25; Neck.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Jockey Mitchell Wood: “That’s my first Metropolitan double and it was really good to get it for Doug (Duryea).

“He’s been a very good supporter of mine. He also gave me my first Listed winner on Dalzar at the Sunshine Coast.

“I’ve got a good association with Doug and Machination and hopefully we can keep it going.

“His last start behind Knot Out (when Machination finished second in heavy going) put the writing on the wall that he was going to win a Saturday race sooner rather than later.

“We just went out there with the intention to ride him like we did last time … go to the front and stack them up.

“When that one went around us it suited us all the better. You know, he kept us on the inside rail, but once we got out away from there at the 300 we were fine.

“This horse … the wetter the better and the faster he gallops, so it was really good when the rain came.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Machination): 7.00 out to 8.00.
Favourite (Knot Out): 2.25 out to 2.30. Finished tenth,

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Due to the reassessment of the track stewards permitted Tenfold to be declared a late scratching at 1pm and Uncle Jan at 1.30pm.

Heartshaker (J. Byrne) was slow to begin.

Kimberley Kid (App B. Looker) and Hull City (S. Bogenhuber) both over-raced in the early stages.

Plenty Of Practise (S. Galloway) and Knot Out (App T. Huxham) both raced wide throughout the event.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Knot Out App T. Huxham explained that whilst the horse had won its most recent start on a rain affected surface he was of the opinion today the horse did not handle the prevailing track conditions.

A post race veterinary examination of Knot Out revealed the gelding to be lame in the near hind leg.

Stable representative Mr E Petrie was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior to Knot Out again racing.

S. Bogenhuber the rider of Hull City explained that the horse did not handle the prevailing track conditions.

A post race veterinary examination of Hull City revealed the mare had sustained a laceration on the off-hind pastern and had come down on both bumpers.
