EF OCT 01 - PROST SPEEDS HOME

By Graham Potter | Monday, October 3, 2011

Eagle Farm, October 1, 2011.
Class 6 Handicap - 1400m.
1 Prost; 2 Mington; 3 Lapel; 4 Machination.
Track: Good 3. Rail: True.
Time: 1-23.24. Last 600: 36.53.

Prost made it two out of two this prep and he also completed a double on the day for the Patinack stable whose trainer John Thompson thus joined defending champion Robert Heatcote at the top of the Brisbane Trainer’s Premiership ladder with fourteen wins apiece.

Under another confident ride by Tim Bell, Prost made his forward move halfway up the straight. From that moment he was never in any danger of defeat as he strolled to the line to win with plenty in hand.

Interestingly enough, Prost also kicked off his previous campaign with a double success, but then failed to add to those successes in a further five starts that prep.

Now more mature and clearly happy with the task being set him, the chances are that Prost’s on-going scenario will have a more positive outcome this time in.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Brett Killian (Foreman for the John Thompson stable): “That makes the drive back to Canungra (the Patinack Queensland base) a bit easier.

“It’s beautiful drawing barrier one … just beautiful. (Both the Patinack winners on the day jumped from pole position). Last week we had some chances, but we had barriers ten to twelve. It just makes such a difference.

“You get barrier one and you can decide where you want to be, you know, rather than having to go back or go forward because you are forced to do so.

“Everything seems to be falling into place with Prost at the moment. He’s relaxing and hitting the line.

“He did have to get out at the top of the straight, but he had plenty of time. There was never a problem.”

Jockey Tim Bell: “Let me assure you, I didn’t have to do too much. The horse did it himself.

“It was race over as soon as I came out of the gates to be honest.

“As soon as I pushed him out he did the rest himself."

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Prost): 3.20 in to 3.00 out to 3.10.
The winner was the favourite.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
As P. Hammersley was to be overweight on Tafeer, L. Cassidy was substituted as the rider of that horse. P. Hammersley was fined the sum of $100.

Jungle Heat (E. Wilkinson) and Sky Effort (Matthew Palmer) were tightened for room on jumping away between Extreme Mover (J. Browne) and Tafeer (L. Cassidy), both of which shifted ground.

Approaching the 600m, Mirabeau (R. Wiggins) hung in and had to be steadied from the heels of Telestah La Vistah (M. Hellyer).

Near the 300m, Prost (T. Bell) shifted out to obtain clear running and made contact with Mington (J. Byrne).

Passing the 100m, Jungle Heat (E. Wilkinson) shifted out abruptly, resulting in Extreme Mover and Telestah La Vistah having to be steadied from that horse's heels. Angel From Above (K. Forrester), which was following, also had to be steadied as a consequence.

Tafeer and Topkapi Palace (J. Taylor) laid out under pressure in the straight.

Topkapi Palace (J. Taylor), Big Chance (R. McMahon) and Mirabeau (R. Wiggins) and Telestah La Vistah raced three wide throughout.

Jungle Heat hung out and raced ungenerously throughout.

A post race veterinary examination of Big Chance failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
