BRC JUL 08 - EMBRACING LANDS WELL JUDGED VICTORY

By Matthew Grimson | Thursday, July 9, 2009

Eagle Farm, July 8, 2009.
Class 6 Handicap - 1000m. Time: 0-59.12.
Track - Dead 5. Rail - out 5m.
1 Embracing; 2 Hail Free; 3 Go Sequalo.

The Peter Bell trained Embracing scored his second win from his last three starts when he came home under a well-judged ride from jockey Damian Browne.

Embracing only returned to action in April following an extended ten month period away from the track. This was the gelding’s fourth run this prep and his record now stands at a healthy five wins from nineteen starts.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Peter Bell: “His last run was on a heavy track and he got back and had a very wide run, you know. Drew very, very poorly and then ran probably five or six wide all the way. So the run was actually good ... better than it appeared. He was beaten less than sixth lengths and it was Saturday class. I wasn’t disappointed with it at all. He’s quite a nice horse. I was confident today.

“He’s had a few feet problems.” (Embracing was out of action for ten months between June 2008 and April 2009). “He won extremely well the second start I gave him at Caloundra. He won very, very well. And then I brought him into town here and he struck that heavy track.

“Ideally we’ll put him in a No Metro Win race if you get the right sort of race. It depends what it’s about though. I haven’t really had a look. But obviously you’d probably look at a Saturday race now for him.”

Jockey Damian Browne: “We got back and travelled lovely. The tempo was pretty good and he quickened nicely on the corner and I was always pretty confident.

“He had a hard time of it in his last race. I’ve never rode him but apparently he was wide and did extra work. The horse has always had a bit of ability but continued to over-race a little bit and get himself in a bit of trouble. That race today was back to 1000m and they were always going to go a bit quicker and it enabled him to finish the race off a little bit better.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Embracing): 9.00 in to 7.00 out to 7.50.
Favourite (Monashee Knight): 3.50 steady. Finished seventh.

STEWARDS REPORTS EXTRACT:
Monashee Knight began awkwardly and as a result the horse shifted out, inconveniencing Feline Hunter (M. Palmer). Millers Wheel (M. Cahill) and Fasliyita (J. Bowditch) were slow to begin. Leaving the 600m, Monashee Knight (J. Piper) shifted out to improve and in doing so forced Five Ways (M. Speers) wider on the track. Hail Free lost its near-fore plate in running. Monashee Knight lost its near-hind plate in running. Boom Shaker lost its off hind plate in running.
