EF JULY 25 - A TREBLE FOR TEGAN: A DOUBLE FOR DUFF AND TIM BELL ENDS APPRENTICESHIP WITH A WINNER

By Graham Potter | Thursday, July 26, 2012

The quick wrap of the meeting held at Eagle Farm on Wednesday July 25

Apprentice Tegan Harrison is certainly going to the line strongly as the season heads to a close. The 2011/12 season has already been a resounding success for the young rider and, as if to emphasize her formidable presence amidst the growing number of apprentices that have been garnishing attention in recent weeks, Harrison completed a treble at Eagle Farm yesterday to take out the day’s riding honours.

Harrison in fact rode three legs of the quadrella. Not that everybody was cheering her home all of the way as she sent many punters packing when she partnered the Michael Lakey trained Flinders Command to an upset victory in the opening leg. Harrison was immediately back in the winner’s enclosure one race later when she never let anybody else into the race when guiding the Mark Palmer trained Western Shadow to a comfortable, front-running victory and she rounded off the treble by landed the odds on with another competent ride on Lines Of Time in the final race on the card.

Lines Of Time also gave trainer Pat Duff his second winner on the day, which was enough to take the training honours. Duff had scored earlier with All My Angels (J Taylor).

Maija Vance (who kept up her good run of form by winning aboard Deacon for trainer David Murphy) and Tim Bell (who won on Lady Of Capri for Kelly Schweida) both played their part in making certain that apprentices riders again dominated the show.

It was however something of a final fling for Tim Bell and he was very happy to complete the last day of his apprenticeship with a winner. He now steps out into the world of senior riders.

The other trainer to get his name onto the scoreboard was Steven O’dea. O’dea struck with Banner In The Sky (Ryan Wiggins) in the first race and he could be considered a touch unlucky not to have added to his tally when having to settle with consolation prizes with both Pretty Face and Billum, who both finished second in their respective traces.

SUSPENSIONS OUT OF THE MEETING:
Jim Byrne - 7 meetings. (Race 2)
Brooke Richardson - 6 meetings. (Race 7)

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT (Race 2)
Near the 700m, Craiglea Tequila and Winalone were tightened for room when racing to the inside of Lady Of Capri (T. Bell) and Favco. At a subsequent inquiry, J. Byrne, rider of Favco pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a), in that approaching the 700m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Lady Of Capri, resulting in that horse shifting in, tightening the running of Win Alone and Craiglea Tequila. J. Byrne was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 29 July and to expire at midnight, 8 August.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT (Race 7)
B. Richardson, rider of Higher Order, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that approaching the 100m she allowed her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Foreign News (L. Rolls), which in turn was forced over onto Psyclone Miss (J. Letherby) resulting in that horse having its momentum checked. B. Richardson was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 29 July, and to expire at midnight, 8 August.
