DOOM OCT 27 - RUN ROYAL RUN MAKES IT THREE WINS FROM HIS LAST FOUR STARTS

By Graham Potter | Saturday, October 27, 2012

Doomben, October 27, 2012.
Track - Good 3; Rail - out 8m.
Class 6 Plate (Set weights) - 2140 m.
1 Run Royal Run; 2 Break The Ice; 3 Buffett; 4 Markout.
Time: 2-10.61; Last 600: 35.28.
Margins: 0.20; 0.50.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Barry Baldwin: “We believe he is still learning and that is the most exciting part about it. There is a lot of improvement in the horse.

“It panned out well. We thought we would let him settle where he was happy and let him hit the line from there.

“There was a bit of pressure in the finish, but he was up for the fight … which is another good sign.

“We might keep him going. There are some nice races there. As I’ve said before I think staying races are easier to win and he might have the makings of a nice stayer.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Run Royal Run): 1.90 out to 2.00.
The winner was the favourite.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Connections advised that They Won't Last would be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.

They Won't Last began awkwardly and had to be steadied from the heels of Collector (L. Cassidy) a short distance after the start when Collector shifted out.

M. Cahill reported that Run Royal Run hung in under pressure from the 500m, placing him at a disadvantage in fully testing his mount.

Leaving the 250m, Rare Subject (J. Lloyd) and Dolly Dolly (R. Myers) came together and made heavy contact when both horses shifted their ground under pressure. In this incident, Rare Subject shifted out and brushed the hind quarters of Run Royal Run before again making contact with Dolly Dolly.

Over the concluding stages, Dolly Dolly shifted out, resulting in rider J. Lloyd being unable to make use of his whip.
