GCST OCT 13 - QFIGHTER GIVES A HINT OF BETTER THINGS TO COME

By Graham Potter | Saturday, October 13, 2012

Gold Coast, October 13, 2012.
Track - Good 3; Rail - out 8m (1400m to w/post) - out 5 (remainder).
Three-year-old Handicap - 900m.
1 Qfighter; 2 Captain Spur; 3 First to Go; 4 Bold Dictator.
Time: 52.41. Last 600: 33.83.
Margins: 2.00; 2.80.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Matthew Dunn: “This is a useful horse. He won by nearly four lengths on his debut back in May and then went straight into the Dalrello Stakes, a Listed race during the Carnival. He was unplaced there and rounded off his first prep with another unplaced run in Rockhampton.

“The Dalrello run was on a Heavy 9 and the Rockhampton run was on a Dead 5 surface and that was a contributing factor in his performance.

‘He had a three month break because he can’t handle wet tracks. That’s the main reason we put it out.

“I think its mother was the same … anything worse than good it wouldn’t go. Yeah, so we just had to wait until it stopped bloody raining.

“He’s come back good. The win was outstanding.

“He was going to be handy … then he went back to be three deep last … then he got the speed on the turn and it was only probably the last 200 yards that he looked like he was going to win and he ended up going on to win by two lengths easing down.”

*Keira Dunn (who representing her husband Matt at the Gold Coast meeting): “Qfighter just failed to handle the softer tracks over the winter.

“After his terrific win here he just didn’t go a yard on the softer tracks at his next two runs and it’s great to finally get him back on a dry tracks.

“We were a bit worried when it started to rain on Thursday, but thankfully we got back to a good track rating today. He’s a very promising horse and he’ll be going straight to Brisbane now.’’

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Trainer R Maund was fined the sum of $200 for presenting If He Don't (G Goold) late to the enclosure.

The start of this race was delayed due to concerns with Dawn Magic's action during the preliminaries. After veterinary examination the horse was passed fit to start.

First To Go (A Pattillo) shifted in at the start making contact with Dawn Magic (S Drake).

If He Don't (G Goold) was slow to begin. App. Goold reported that after If He Don't was slow to begin the horse never travelled well at any stage of the event.

Approaching the 600m Qfighter (C Whiteley) was crowded for room when racing between Bold Dictator (A Taylor) and Love Stories (J K Johnson) which shifted in.

Approaching the 400m Dawn Magic shifted out in an endeavour to improve and in doing so carried Love Stories wider on the track. Qfighter which was trailing was inconvenienced and forced wider on the track also.

It was reported that If He Don't lost its off-fore plate in running.
