MY CALL - BUFFERING AT TERRIFIC VALUE ODDS LOOKS A TEMPTING PROPOSITION FOR THE STRADBROKE

By David Fowler | Tuesday, June 4, 2013

David Fowler is the principal thoroughbred caller for Radio TAB. David, who is a keen form student and punter, has enjoyed a lifetime involvement in the racing media. His personal blog, ‘My Call’, appears exclusively on HRO.

I'm itching to tip Buffering to win this week's AAMI Stradbroke. I think I will.

The $12 ($3.75 place) fixed odds is terrific value in my book.

Are we getting too hyped with the, admittedly, extra smart clutch of three-year-olds who are going to meet Buffering better at the weights?

But scanning the likely final field I can see Buffering clearly dictating the speed which is a role he relishes.

I'll concede 1400m is stretching the friendship, particularly at Stradbroke level, but that $12 keeps popping up in front of me.

Epaulette won the 10,000 because of the pace Buffering made. Your Song was destroyed because of the pace Buffering made.

Can you find another horse in the Straddy who will go head and head with Buffering? I can't. Surely they wouldn't make the same mistake with Your Song again!

Funnily enough, if there is a knockout it could be Buffering's stable-mate Solzhenitsyn at 16 bucks who will go into the Group One fresh as a daisy.

A good draw for "Buff" is vital but a bad one is not the end of the world.

Time to hit the keyboard and bet confirmed!

Everyone has had an opinion about Tom Waterhouse in recent times and we have moved on.

It was Eddie Maguire's turn to face the court of public opinion last week.

And it seems everyone had an opinion about Sizzling as well.

It seems if you knocked Sizzling you should be sent to the naughty corner or you should hand in your tipping licence.

What a load of garbage!

The racing game is based on opinion and you'll be right and you'll be wrong.

I didn't think Sizzling could win on Saturday on his last run. I thought his first-up run was more than respectable.

And, as such, I thought his odds were way under what they should be. I tipped, commented, and bet accordingly

Sizzling proved me and many others wrong. Who cares! I moved on to the next race in half an hour.

Some seem to think not tipping a horse is bagging it or belittling it.

That's not correct.

It's not often I agree with rails bookie Lindsay Gallagher on a range of racing topics.

I think our politics is the only thing where the stars align.

But he hit the nail on the head in his Just Racing review on Monday when he said the first race on Saturday was "way too early".

I can understand an 11.40 kick off with nine races but not eight.

All it did was severely hamper turnover.

But it's nine this weekend on Super Saturday.

I've been wondering for some time if Michael Cahill can ride 100 metropolitan winners this season.

He's sitting on an impressive 74 after Sir Moments won The Phoenix.

He has to ride 26 winners in 16 metro meetings remaining.

Tough but not impossible.

I hope plenty of stables lend a hand in his quest.

Why wouldn't they? They're assured of a good ride.

Many will know that Wayne Wilson is currently recovering from a cancer-related operation last week.

Without going into detail, it wasn't easy but such is his resilience he is determined to make it to the Stradbroke this Saturday.

Please say hello and wish him well on what is still a tough road ahead.

He was tickled pink that Chris Munce dedicated the Sizzling Guineas win to him.

I think Hawkspur will make a clean sweep of our three-year-old features in the Derby and the Sydneysider Romantic Touch will make a one act affair of the J.J. Atkins.

Good luck this weekend on our biggest day of racing.
