DOOMBEN, DEC 21: DAVID FOWLER SELECTS ...

By David Fowler | Saturday, December 21, 2013

Form assessed for a good 3.

Race 1:

DIVINE SERVICE (2) looks as good as anything on his EF debut win a month ago. Good alley is a plus. CELESTIAL DRAGON (1) did nothing wrong leading all way this track and trip Nov 30 but track was heavy then. DRAGSTER (5) is in a good stable and trialled nicely at Doomben. Rough chances 4, 6 and 12.

Race 2:

SEEKING MORE (2) is smart and might have needed the run 1st-up EF 4th midweek. Since trialled impressively and boxed to get a good trip in this. LENNIE’S CHOICE (1) has been drawing badly but expect better showing now he has got the 4 gate. Should lead. AVALADYLUCK (7) is smart and likely to run well fresh, but 1000m? Rough chances 3, 4, 5, 6 and 9.

Race 3:

GENERAL EXHIBIT (6) ran a cracking race 1st-up and this looks ideal, particularly drawing 2, should land behind ROCKET TO GLORY (2) who leads and will take catching. MR FAVULOUS (7) doesn’t know how to run a bad race. Rough chances 1 and 8.

Race 4:

CHEAPSKATER (5) is a central Queenslander who has run some cheeky races in the city previously. No luck latest D’bn midweek and blinkers on today. JOPA (4) is now finding the line and latest D’bn 3rd this track and trip was sound. IN A STORM (3) doesn’t win out of turn but gets a good run in this. Rough chances 1, 2, 6, 11 and 12.

Race 5:

EMERALD DUKE (2) keeps taking the next step and trainer John Morrisey sounded quietly confident when I spoke with him on Radio TAB this morning. Stay with him at his middle distance attempt. CATALONIA (12) is in-form and light weight is a plus. SAVE THE STAR (8) is an underrated stayer who beat several of these last start. Rough chances 1, 4, 5, 6, 10, 11 and 13.

Race 6:

OUR ZIDANE (3) had the “red light” on him in his latest D’bn mile 2nd when he beat several of these. Looks an ideal 2000m type. MISS HUSSON (4) was in the same race and was just behind OUR ZIDANE. Should stay. AMEXED (5) had no luck in the same race and also looks as though he will run the distance. Rough chances 1, 6, 9 and 10.

Race 7:
BINGO ROSE (2) is a capable mare who ran excellently 1st-up behind the in-form Love Rocks. The 1350m looks tailor-made 2nd-up and Hellyer knows her well. VACALLO (1) keeps running good races and should be in the mix again. WRITTEN ABOVE ALL (3) needs things to go his way but if it pans out for him, he has a strong sprint. Rough chances 4, 6, 10, 12 and 14.

Race 8:

Why can’t LUCKY HUSSLER (5) win again. Beat most of these 1st-up at 1200m but 1350m looks an ideal progression, well drawn and Cahill booked now. STEEL ZIP (7) has been good this campaign and will finish top 3 here. MORNING CAPTAIN (2) doesn’t know how to run a bad race. I’m risking LOVE ROCKS at 1350m. Rough chances 1, 3, 8, 11, 12 and 13.

Race 9:

Looks a perfect assignment for TRAKSTAR (9). Two runs this time in, sound and well drawn, suited out to the mile for 3rd-up run. HI SON (7) is a promising 4yo who drops in the weights on latest GC 3rd. ALTAI WARRIOR (2) was well ridden to win track and trip last start and should be a chance again. Rough chances 1, 6, 8, 12 and 14.

BEST BET: TRAKSTAR (Race 9).

BEST EACHWAY: BINGO ROSE (race 7),

BEST ROUGHIE: STEEL ZIP (Race 8).
