BRC AUG 08 - FROZONE MAKES IT TWO-IN-A-ROW

By Graham Potter | Monday, August 10, 2009

Eagle Farm, Saturday, August 8, 2009.
Track - Good 3. Rail - True.
1MW Handicap - 2100m. Time: 2-12.46.
1st - Frozone; 2nd - Lander; 3rd - Afleet Rapper.

The four-year-old Reset gelding Frozone made it two in a row when he easily gathered in the leader Lander in the final chase to the line to score in comfortable fashion. This effort came on the back of an equally convincing win at the Gold Coast in his previous start.

Frozone settled fifth for much of the trip before being asked for his effort by apprentice jockey Owen Turpin early in the home straight and his response was just too good for his rivals. This result gave both trainer Alan Bailey and rider Owen Turpin the first leg of a double on the day. Bailey later added Tears’N’Cheers to his list of winners while Turpin also scored on Winmara for his boss trainer Frank Phillips in the feature event on the card.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Alan Bailey: “He hasn’t had any luck. He draws the outside gate nearly every time he runs. Even in a six horse race the other day he still had an outside draw. When he works he is so strong, you know. I said to the blokes, we’ve just got to go forward on him.”

Apprentice jockey Owen Turpin: “Mr Bailey explained that we had the bad alley today so we tried to go forward, but that didn’t quite work out. So, it cost us the lead but they slackened the pace a bit. He travelled lovely. Mr Bailey explained that the horse had a good sprint so I was quite confident. He let down great. The only thing is he lays in quite badly which Mr. Bailey explained. But I only had to give him one hit and he won easy. He was nowhere near fully extended at the line.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Frozone): 2.10 out to 2.30 out to 2.40.
The winner was the favourite.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
After jumping away awkwardly, Il Favorito (A. Pattillo) was obliged to race wide in the early stages. Lord Rupert (C. Reith) raced wide in the early and middle stages.
