BRC AUG 12 - PURR OF GLORY’S SUCCESS STORY

By Graham Potter | Friday, August 14, 2009

Eagle Farm, August 12, 2009.
QTIS 3yo Handicap - 1000m. Time: 58.47
Track - Good 3. Rail - out 4m.
1 Purr Of Glory; 2 Fleet ‘N’ Fast; 3 Dancingwithangels

For the second time in a row the name Purr Of Glory carried the sweet sound of success as the Kelly Schweida trained three-year-old proved too strong for her rivals to keep her perfect record intact.

Purr Of Glory joined issue with Fleet ‘N’ Fast at the head of affairs when it mattered most and then powered home the stronger of the two to win by a clear-cut 1.50 length margin. What the filly lacks in size she certainly makes up for with determination. In both of here wins to date, when bumped and intimidated at Ipswich and when asked to battle Fleet ‘N’Fast here, Purr Of Glory has shown commendable commitment which supplements her obvious above average talent - and she is only still learning her trade!

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Kelly Schweida: “She was a little bit slow to go. She’s only small, but geez she can attack the line. The other day at Ipswich she got a couple of the heaviest bumps that you’d want to see on the corner, one more bump would have knocked her off her feet. But, you know, she’s just small, but all she wants to do is attack the line, you know.

“She’s not very big. I am quite sure if she gets a wet track she’ll grow another leg. All her trials and jump outs that we were getting were on wet tracks, and she showed us quite a lot, you know. All she wants to do, in everything that she does, is attack the line. All she wants to do. No, I don’t know if she’ll get further. I don’t know if she’ll get 1400m.”

Jockey Jim Byrne: “While she was just a neck behind the other horse we were right in there, but as soon as she got in front of the other horse she really wanted to attack the line. So full credit to her. “She’s very tiny, but what there is of her, it’s all heart. You know, she knows how to find the line. I don’t know how far she’ll go, but she shows a lot. Full credit to Kelly (Schweida), because he selected this race and trained her well - and ridden just as good! Great result.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Purr Of Glory): 8.50 out to 9.00.
Favourite (Bevagna): 3.80 out to 4.80. Finished ninth.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Following this race, S. Katsidis, rider of the 3rd placegetter, Dancingwithangels, exercised his right to view the stewards' patrol film over the final 200m to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against the 2nd placegetter, Fleet ‘N' Fast. After viewing the footage, S. Katsidis did not proceed further.

At a subsequent inquiry, S. Katsidis reported that near the 250m he positioned Dancingwithangels into what was a tight run between Hombre Warrior (A. Spinks) and Fleet ‘N’ Fast (A. Pattillo) and as a result the shoulder of his mount made contact with the hind quarters of Hombre Warrior resulting in that horse becoming unbalanced and tightening his running. S. Katsidis added he was then forced to take hold of his mount. He further stated that the run between Hombre Warrior and Fleet ‘N’ Fast then became available shortly after, however closed due to both horses shifting ground.

Love A Sequalo (L. Cassidy) and Burns Bright (A. Erhart) were slow to begin. Arcup (C. McIver) and Promo Girl (M. Speers) made contact on several occasions leaving the 700m. Passing the 500m Red Vinnie (L. Rolls), when racing greenly, shifted out, making contact with Dancingwithangels (S. Katsidis). Bevagna (K. Pope), Arcup (C. McIver) and Lightstar (R. Wiggins) all hung out rounding the home turn.

R. Wiggins, rider of Lightstar, reported that the horse had a tendency to lay out and as a result he was obliged to position Lightstar back and wide on the track. R. Wiggins further added that Light Star continued to hang out and only finished the race off fairly and, in his opinion, had come to the end of its preparation.

A post race veterinary examination of Promo Girl revealed the filly to be mildly lame in the near foreleg. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for Promo Girl prior to its next race start.
