GOLD COAST, JANUARY 10: DAVID FOWLER SELECTS ...

By David Fowler | Saturday, January 10, 2015

Form assessed for a soft 5 track should not affect the performance of any horse. Watch for any bias in straight.

RACE 1:

HOMEHILL (5) is a smart maiden, placed 4 of 7 and 2 runs this time in have been sound in Listed and Group company. Gets chance now, HOSTWIN PEGASUS (6) showed some promise in Sydney and Melbourne and trialled well at Randwick recently. LARABEE (8) ran well twice last campaign and trialled OK at GC. Rough chances 4, 7, 9 and 15.

RACE 2:

AMOVATIO (2) goes to the 1800m for the first time but was good at Canterbury last start and Randwick mile win in November was excellent. Gets the best of runs off the rails with Oliver riding. DANAS BEST (6) was sound at R'hill 1st up and goes to a more suitable distance now. Rolls forward with blinkers. OFF THE RAILS (7) has consistent Sydney form and down 5.5kg on last start R'hill 2nd. Rough chances 1, 5, 9, 11 and 14.

RACE 3:

MISS HUSSON (8) is a terrific each way chance in a race with not many winning hopes. Trained here and was good 1st-up Ipswich and more than capable of handling this better class. CHAMPAGNE CATH (1) is a classy mare, went OK 1st-up, but a little reservation with 59kg at 1300m. TUKIYO (2) prefers 1200m but will get a good run and has a top 3 chance. Rough chances 4, 7 and 9.

RACE 4:

SEEKING MORE (4) is a professional short course sprinter and gets all the favours off the rails gate following a strong tempo. Appeals strongly on both totes. STRATURBO (9) has run well in Sydney and Melbourne and goes forward. MISSY LONGSTOCKING (5) hasn't run for a year but watch for her late. Rough chances 1, 7 and 8.

RACE 5:

After watching all of the Sydney visitors I'm more than happy to stay with the Queensland form-lines and suggest MYWAYORTHEHIGHWAY (10) delivered no fluke performance in winning the Vo Rogue a fortnight ago. Terrific effort to go from a Caloundra maiden to a Group 3 in in one go. Generously priced. HIJACK HUSSY (11) has the best form in the race but she seems to be getting slower in the early stages with every run. It's a concern. ECHO GAL (13) is the best of the Sydneysiders. Rough chances 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 12, 14, 15, 17.

RACE 6:

In contrast to the MM 3yo, I'm looking to the Sydneysiders here with SURF SEEKER (5) selected to beat PERIGNON (11). SURF SEEKER was outstanding on debut at Wyong and can only have taken a step forward with the experience. Right stable. PERIGNON (11) was just behind SURF SEEKER (5) at Wyong and then won well at Canterbury. SINGLE GAZE (8) has done nothing wrong and can complete a Sydney trifecta. Rough chances 1, 2, 3, 7, 14 and 16.

RACE 7:

STRAWBERRY BOY (2) is a sparingly raced front runner and is awfully hard to beat in a race with not a lot of winning chances. D.Browne and the rails are pluses as well. SPURTONIC (3) is generously priced and has had a strong trialling regime for this. HARADA BAY (7), a strong finisher, is the best of the locals. Rough chances 1 and 4.

RACE 8:

REAL TIME (13) is a smart Victorian in an extra smart stable. Won 3 in a row before unlucky at Sale. Settles midfield and can produce a strong finish off a solid tempo. BODEGA NEGRA (10) has been kept fresh since his 1st-up Ipswich win and will run well from the rails gate. MURDER OF CROWS (12) is a capable Sydneysider with a good turn of speed. Rough chances 2, 8 and 14.

BEST BET: SURF SEEKER (race 6).

BEST EACHWAY: MISS HUSSON (race 3).

BEST ROUGHIE: MYWAYORTHEHIGWAY (race 5).

QUADRELLA: 10, 11, 12, 13 / 5, 7, 8, 11, 14 / 1, 2, 3, 4, 7 / 2, 10, 12, 13.
