IPSW AUG 20 - EXTRA GROUND DOES THE TRICK FOR MILORA MONARCH

By Graham Potter | Sunday, August 23, 2009

Ipswich, August 20, 2009.
Track - Good 3. Rail - out 1.5m.
Maiden Plate (Set Weights) - 1666m. Time: 1-41.86.
1 Milora Monarch; 2 The Snicster; 3 Court Jesting.

The lightly raced Milora Monarch relished the step up in distance and, in spite of racing green, he carried too much firepower for the opposition and he came away to win by a comfortable 1.50 length margin.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Alicia Willick: “Yeah, he’s had excuses for his runs. He has always shown ability and we always though the further he’d go the better. Christian (Reith) said he was still green as grass today and we still won.”

Jockey Christian Reith: “He’s taken a bit of time to come along. He is a pretty immature horse. I rode him in his first two starts, but they were wet tracks. I always thought he was going to run well today. He’s looking for the trip. The further he goes the better he’ll go.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Milora Monarch): 4.00 out to 4.60.
Favourite (Sassafras Boy): 3.00 in to 2.60. Finished fourth.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Morgan Factor (M. Hellyer) over-raced in the early stages. Our Gold Minto (S. Apthorpe) raced wide for the majority of the event. Shortly after the start, Ay Cee commenced to over-race and shifted wider on the track. Approaching the 800m, Ay Cee again began to race ungenerously and took charge of its rider, shifting wider on the track until a point near the 300m where the horse was restrained out of the event.

When questioned regarding the racing manners of Ay Cee, B. El-Issa stated that after the mare commenced to race ungenerously leaving the 800m, it took charge and shifted wider on the track, resulting in him having little control and no other option but to ease the horse out of the event. Trainer B. Hill stated that he had adjusted the gear for the mare's start today, however was at a loss to explain the performance of Ay Cee today. Trainer B. Hill was advised that Ay Cee must perform to the satisfaction of the stewards in an official barrier trial before being permitted to race again. A post race veterinary examination of Ay Cee failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

The Snicster lost its off-hind plate during the event.
