MY CALL - RQ QUICK ON THE SIDESTEP. FAIL TO PROVIDE SPECIFIC ANSWERS TO PERTINENT QUESTIONS

By David Fowler | Tuesday, July 28, 2015

David Fowler is the principal thoroughbred caller for Radio TAB. David, who is a keen form student and punter, has enjoyed a lifetime involvement in the racing media. His personal blog, ‘My Call’, appears exclusively on HRO.

"Just as it was presented to me," was Ian Hall's comment last Friday on Radio TAB when qualifying his decision to postpone the thoroughbred and harness Awards' Nights.

This comment is intriguing. What was presented to the interim CEO to make this drastic call?

Radio TAB's Steve Hewlett asked Mr Hall, "how much do these awards nights cost"?

That question is ambiguous. One awards night? All awards nights?

So the response becomes equally ambiguous.

"The current budget is in the order of $100,000," Hall replied.

One awards night? All awards nights?

I wonder "what was presented to me" included revenue of ticket sales and sponsorships.

Information at my disposal say these figures are exaggerated.

A series of questions directed to the interim CEO over the weekend by this blogger were not answered specifically.

A four paragraph reply concluded with "we will not be providing a running commentary on this issue and will reserve comment until a final decision has been made."

This whole episode has a real "baby with the bath water" feel about it.

I doubt stakeholders in general will support these awards nights at the forthcoming consultation sessions.

So if you're a winner, hope for a handshake. It's tough times ahead!

And busy times ahead for Racing Queensland hierarchy.
The late mail is the consultation process is ready to launch next week.

Significantly, a key infrastructure meeting with interested parties has been put back to the middle of the month.

That consultation data may provide a platform for the meeting but expect fireworks nonetheless.

There might well be an austerity drive out Deagon way.
My mail is ETAGs for road and bridge toll payments have to be handed back this week by hard working stewards.

Could that be right?

Jim Byrne doesn't seem all that fussed about winning Premierships.

The "take it in his stride" attitude in quotes attributed to him in last Saturday's Courier-Mail suggest Premiership achievement is overrated.

I disagree and I'm sure many others would.

But you can't put your mindset into someone else's so good luck to Jim in his pursuits.

But I can't help thinking was he has nonchalant when he captured his first title in 1997/98?

I wonder.

Couldn't help chuckling when I saw late mail posted for a USA race on Sky Raciing last weekend.

The late mail provider was John LIES.

I kid you not.
