DOOMBEN, OCTOBER 10: DAVID FOWLER SELECTS ...

By David Fowler | Friday, October 9, 2015

Selections for Doomben tomorrow. Please note selections have been posted a day before the Saturday 7.30am Saturday final scratchings deadline. Please check final fields for any changes on the day

RACE 1:

CRIQUETTE (8) is Magic Millions bound and has worked impressively privately. The weight of money suggests she will be too good. Her chances are enhanced by a lack of opposition. No dangers or rough chances due to limited data.

RACE 2:

MAGIC OF DREAMS (1) is a standout. Lightly-raced and comes off a good Wyong 3rd 1st-up in smart company. Good reports about her trial since at Newcastle. STAR DROP (3) is the quinella hope. Going well this time in and maps well. PANDORA CHARM (2) doesn't win out of turn but is often placed in this grade. Rough chances 4, 6, 7 and 11.

RACE 3:

Tricky race. ROSENET (4) is coming out of an easier fillies and mares assignment but was creditable in previous two runs in this grade. Drawn to get a good trip and fairly generously-priced fixed. STEEL ZIP (2) is in rare form and been freshened. Watch for him late. RIVA DE LAGO (1) had a perfect trip to win track and trip 1st-up but not as well drawn now. Rough chances 3, 5, 6 and 7.

RACE 4:

Why can't LOCKS LEGEND (1) win again. Going for five straight, he carries the same weight against the same opposition and maps to secure the same run. Selected. COLLAR (4) is the value runner. Should roll forward and lead or box seat. Last run sound. Maybe back LOCKS LEGEND and save on COLLAR. ANNA LIZZIE (3) was runner-up to LOCKS LEGEND last run and can run well again. Rough chances 2, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10.

RACE 5:

BEST OF THE REST (1) ran well 1st-up then had a hard run outside the leader here last time out. Looks suited to the mile 3rd run back. BEATNIKS (9) was good at this track and trip a fortnight ago and will be handier from a better alley. Main danger. THE THOMAS AFFAIR (4) is honest and maps to get a good run. Rough chances 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10.

RACE 6:

Strong race for this grade. CROOKED BLAZE (1) has been set for this 1st-up after a fast win during the Grafton carnival. Should land fifth or sixth and be hard to hold out, keeping in mind he runs well fresh. TRALFAZ (2) was solid 1st-up and D.Browne stays with him. VOLTAIRE LUMIERE (6) was a good tip 1st-up but had little luck. Worth another chance off rails. Rough chances 7, 10, 12, 14, 15 and 17.

RACE 7:

You can't fault CHARIOT OF GOLD's (1) consistency. Rolls forward and should be outside the leader. Foolproof eachway. PLAYTIME (9) is a 7yo mare but is racing in good form and has a value hope from the good gate. CASUAL CHOICE (10) was good winning here a fortnight ago and has to be considered again. Rough chances 2, 3, 5, 7, 11 and 14.

RACE 8:

BLUE DESERT MOON (3) is unbeaten in 3 runs. Very fast out of the barriers, I can't see why she can't win again. BANDA SPICE (4) gets a good run and looks good latest Sunshine Coast win. QUICK KETCH (11) is a roughie with some hope. Very good in two country wins. Rough chances 1, 2 and 13.

BEST BET: BLUE DESERT MOON (race 8).

BEST EACHWAY: CHARIOT OF GOLD (race 7).

BEST ROUGHIE: COLLAR (race 4).

QUADRELLA: 1, 3, 4, 9 / 1, 2, 6, 10, 14 / 1, 9, 10, 11 / 1, 3, 4, 11.
