RAND AUG 22 - SWIFT ALLIANCE SHOWS HIS CLASS

By HRO | Wednesday, August 26, 2009

Randwick, August 22, 2009.
County Quality (Listed - 3yo and up) - 1200m.
Time: 1-09.83. Track - Good.
1 Swift Alliance; 2 Bryannbo’s Gift; 3 Albert The Fat.

The Gai Waterhouse trained Swift Alliance made it win number five from only six career starts when taking out the Listed Show County Quality.

After getting the beautiful run on the fence behind the leader throughout, the opening presented itself at the 200m and jockey Blake Shinn drove the entire through to win going away. The son of Don Eduardo has now won all three runs back from a spell on tracks ranging from heavy to good and looks as though he has what it takes to make the leap to Group racing.

The impeccably bred Bryannbo's Gift ran a solid race first up from a spell to grab second showing he too may have more 'Black Type' in him, while the ever consistent Albert The Fat ran on strongly from well back to claim a creditable third placing.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Gai Waterhouse: “Absolutely accelerating stamina! He got into a position where I thought if you're going to get beaten you'll get beaten today and all of a sudden he just digs so deep - and it's the way he accelerates. I think he is a lovely horse. He'll be set for the Manikato now.

“He's the first Don Eduardo to really fly the flag in the sprinting distances. You wouldn’t think that such a brilliant staying sire as Don Eduardo could sire a son that’s got so much brilliant speed. He is a horse on the real improve and very exciting. I love to be involved with him.”

Jockey Blake Shinn: “We always knew he was a pretty good horse and I was very confident. His gallop last Saturday with Dreamscape was sensational and Gai (Waterhouse) just ticked him over during the week and I couldn't have been happier with him ... perfect run throughout and he really exploded when I wanted him to. I was happy to take a sit and when the run presented I was happy to take it and he quickened like a really good horse.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Albert The Fat over-raced in the middle stages and had to be restrained off the heels of Fighting Fund. Century Serb got its head up and tended to hang out rounding the home turn. Over the final 40m G Schofield, rider of Hello Pretty, was obliged to stop riding when positioned close to the heels of Fighting Fund.
