WINNO'S WINNERS (1): TOOWOOMBA, APRIL 16

By Darren Winningham | Friday, April 15, 2016

As this form assessment was made one day prior to raceday, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.

Toowoomba is a track where you can lead, and kick and win and a track where you can put your horse into the race on the turn and make a sustained run to win.

Not too sure how the track may play, so you may need to take the time to see how the first few races are run and won. Locally trained horses normally do well on this race day each year.

*******************************************************************************************************

Race 1

Ruling Force (2) is in great form. Pearly Court (9) has a good record at the track and has won 3 of 6 starts at the track. If the track is rain affected it will improve its chances further. Col N Lil (6) didn’t fire last start second up from a spell, however, it is trained on the track by Ben Currie and could dramatically improve.

Selections: 2-9-6-4

*******************************************************************************************************

Race 2

Temujin’s Queen (11) trained at the track and a good record second up could be some great value at $17 to win a tough race. Star Drop (3) and Sarisara (2) both are dangers first up from a spell and have been trialling well. American Spirit (9) was unlucky last start and held up badly, look for an improved run. The favourite Amizade (6) could improve and blow them all out.

Selections: 11-3-2-9

*******************************************************************************************************

Race 3

The Sydney raider Brooklyn Storm (9) may just rain on the locals’ chances of winning the race. Gracida (10) has done well with two wins after resuming from a spell. Payback (8) was impressive winning at the Gold Coast nearly a month ago and has been freshened for the race. Payback is another local trained horse from the Tony Sears stables with Dan Griffin, king of the Gold Coast making the trip up the hill to ride it. Maybe cop the tip and back it each way.

Selections: 9-8-10-5 - rough chance the 16

********************************************************************************************************
Race 4 – Dalrello Stakes (2 year olds)

A good two year old race. The Luke Dittman and John Zielke team come to Toowoomba with Spot the Diff (5). Those who watched the run last start could not be more impressed with the horse held up and then coming again late to win the race. With a Promise (11) had a run in Toowoomba in March and won at the track, maybe the trainer Les Ross was giving the horse a look at the track prior to this race. It has since won a race on the Gold Coast. Love Spy (6) is drawn wide and may need some luck from out there.

Selections: 5-11-6-3 - rough chance 13

********************************************************************************************************

Race 5 Toowoomba Guineas

Havasay (4) has been running well. Robert Thompson, “King of the Coalfields” has made the trip up to ride the horse for Liam Birchley. Emphasis (3) is coming back in distance from 2020m at Doomben to the 1625m of the Guineas, will be sure to coming home hard at the end of the race.

Selections: 4-3-2-8

*******************************************************************************************************

Race 6 XXXX Toowoomba Cup 2016

Honey Toast (3) has been set for this race and may see local trainer Ben Currie win his home town Cup.
Volkhere (2) and Iggi Pop (1) are certain to improve over the 2000m.

Selections: 3-2-1-5

********************************************************************************************************

Race 7 Audi Centre Toowoomba Weetwood 2016

Wow what a field! If you like one here don’t let me talk you of backing it! Bjorn Baker trains Coolring (3) and has brought the horse north for the race. Could be a big day for the stable! Pillar of Creation (2) has won its last two starts impressively and Brad Pengelly remains on the horse. The 2015 Ramornie winner Rock Royalty has been running into some good form – could be the one that blows them all off the track late. I wonder whether Cautious Chris (AKA – Chris Walker) who has a share in the horse will be at the track with his helmet and mobile phone filming the race.

Selections: 3-2-6-4 - roughie 17 if it gets a start

*******************************************************************************************************

Race 8

Going wide here and tipping Cantbuybetter (3) to beat Upstart Pride (7) and Trubia (6) first up from a spell.
This is the toughest race of the day. Do not be surprised if Lordag (2) from a horrendous barrier draw is ridden quietly and makes a run in the final 100m. The horse usually runs well fresh.

Selections 3-7-6-2 with rough chance 4

*********************************************************************************************************

Quaddie (races 5,6,7,8): 2, 3, 4 / 2, 3 / 2, 3, 6/ 2 ,3 ,6. 7 - cost $72 for $1.

Treble (races 6,7,8): 2, 3 / 2, 3, 6 / 2, 3, 6. 7 - cost will be $24 for $1.

Small Quaddie(races 5,6,7,8): 3, 4/ 3 / 2 ,6 / 3, 6, 7 - cost $12 for $1.
