GOLD COAST, MAY 7: FOUR-IN-A-ROW FOR IMPOSING LASS AS SHE HOLDS OFF SILVER STREAM IN THE BRACELET

By Graham Potter | Monday, May 9, 2016

THE GOLD COAST BRACELET – LISTED
QTIS Three-Year-Old Fillies Plate – 1800m

Trainer Bjorn Baker has previously enjoyed notable success on the Gold Coast (he won the 2014 Magic Millions Two-Year-Old Classic with Unencumbered) and the stable’s good fortune at the Gold Coast continued when he landed a double at this featured Prime Minister’s Cup meeting.

First to get on the scoreboard was the three-year-old filly Imposing Lass who strode away from her wide draw with meaning to steadily move around horses before taking up the leading position going through the 1400m.

From there jockey Jason Collett dictated the course of events from the front, racing a comfortable length to the good from Silver Stream all the way to the point of the home turn.

At that stage Silver Stream did try to bring more pressure to bear on Imposing Lass but she was clearly still racing well within her comfort zone.

It was also clear though that Silver Stream was not going away and the latter kept coming strongly enough to force Collett to get a little bit more busy on Imposing lass who responded well to his increased urgings to hold her only danger all the way to the line.

This was Imposing Lass’s fourth successive victory from only five starts. She is a really smart filly.

All credit too to the runner-up Self Esteem. No cigar, but a brave effort. Like the winner, she is one for the notebook.

BJORN BAKER STABLE FOREMAN, JACK BRICE:

PRE-RACE:

“She hasn’t turned a hair the whole time she has been here. I think there will be a bit of speed in the race. We’ll just leave it to Jason (Collett) to assess. She does have the temperament to be able to settle behind horses but if she has to lead she is more than capable of doing that.

“She has really thrived in the last two weeks. Obviously the long-term aim is the Queensland Oaks, but she is ticking along well.”

POST-RACE:

“Good win. Very happy.

“She is very push button. She is a very bomb-proof horse She does everything right. She was just too good. Bjorn (Baker) has continually raised the bar with her and she has got there every time.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:

RED CHANDELIER – Kicked by another runner behind the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start.

CAPETOWN HUSSEY – Had to be steadied when tightened for room shortly after the start.

SEBRING SALLY – Hampered shortly after the start. Over-raced in the early stages. Raced wide throughout.

FALKENBERG – Held up rounding the home turn. Jockey D. Browne reported that his intention was to obtain a position closer to the speed however, the filly failed to muster the necessary speed in the early stages despite his efforts. Jockey D. Browne was fined $200.00 for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race. In determining penalty stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that jockey Browne’s actions had cost the filly third place.

CIRCULAR – Held up rounding the home turn.

LADY ATHENA – Held up in the early stages of the home straight. Passing the 100m was obliged to shift in and away from the heels of another runner.

PRETTY LUCKY – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

QUEEN OF WANDS – Raced wide throughout.
