WINNO'S WINNERS: DOOMBEN, JULY 23

By Darren Winningham | Friday, July 22, 2016

Congratulations to the Chris Waller stable who have just eclipsed prize money in excess of $30 million for the 2015/16 season – a great effort by this all conquering team.

Last week Winno had a rest after a wonderful week at Grafton for his 30th year attending the Carnival. The Clarence Rive Jockey Club must be congratulated for their continuous innovations and enticements to bring the best horses possible to the Carnival each year.

I am back this week with all cylinders firing and coming off both a spell and a wonderful NSW Blues win in Game 3 in State of Origin so look out! I think that gives me bragging rights for the next eleven months because everyone knows “you’re only as good as your last game!”

This weekend we are back at Doomben – the rail out 1m for the entire circuit and with some glorious hot weather forecast the track should get to Good. Every horse should have its chance!

NB *As this form assessment was made prior to raceday, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.

***************************************************************************************************

Race 1

A two year old race over 1600 metres are you serious! Looks like a tough way to start your day. The class horse in the race is Royal Tithe (1) but she has been up a while and could be looking for a spell. She is to be ridden by boom apprentice Josh Oliver and gets a three kilo claim off the big weight. Invinciboy (2) ran on well from well back last start. Bold Heart (5) and Persistent Shadow (13) look like the best of the rest. If you really need to have bets maybe back the 2 each way.

Selections: 2-5-1-13 rough chances 5 and 10.

Race 2

Another lottery here! The two trained by Brian Smith Electric Dee Jay (7) and In the Kitty (13) look good chances and a nice price. They are to be ridden by Jimmy Orman and Jimmy Byrne who are both trying to catch Jeff Lloyd in the Brisbane Jockeys Premiership. Jeff rides the improved Panno Rosa (1) who I saw win impressively at the Gold Coast the other week. Touch of Bella (8) won well at Toowoomba last start and comes to the city this week and has the addition of Damian Browne to improve its chances. In A Jiffy (10) looks like an improving type as well. You may have to go wide here in your exotics.

Selections: 7-8-1-10 rough chance 13.

*************************************************************************************************

Race 3

I am going for a Grafton trained horse here – Dantga (12) to be ridden by Matthew Bennett who has a great association with the horse, who won a recent barrier trial at Grafton in good style and always runs well fresh. Just a Bullet (1) won well first up from a spell at the Sunshine Coast and has drawn nicely. Dame Destiny (4) is racing well and probably will stride forward from barrier 15. Limerick Moon (13) has been racing consistently. There are plenty of chances here in a big field.

Selections: 12-4-1-13 rough chance 6 and 8.

*************************************************************************************************

Race 4

The Monstar (2) is a dual acceptor here (also nominated in Race 3). Treatmelikealady (9) has had the benefit of a recent barrier trial and has an impressive first up record and is sure to be ready here. Straturbo (3) is the class runner here and raced well last start at Flemington after an impressive win here at Doomben in the Chief De Beers race over the Brisbane Carnival. Upstart Pride (5) was just run down last start by Dream Choice and will probably lead here again. Londehero (7) has been nominated and scratched over recent weeks and should get a good track and race well.

Selections: 9-3-5-7 rough chance 2.

**************************************************************************************************

Race 5

A Class 3 race to start the Quaddie – someone is being cruel this week! Tani Tei En (3) normally races handy to the lead and performs well when left alone in front. He has drawn barrier 1 and should take the lead and be hard to run down here. Bourbon Road (8) ran a solid race first up two weeks ago and will be improved for that run. Binary (5) and Motion Granted (6) have been in consistent form. Binary comes back in class here, but has drawn barrier 18. Motion Granted has had some early support in the markets firming from $10 to $8. Rock Spark (10) is lightly raced and dominated in a Class 1 race in Toowoomba. It is trained by Ben Currie and his stable apprentice Josh Oliver takes the ride.

Selections: 8-5-6-10 rough chances 3, 14 and 15.

**************************************************************************************************

Race 6

Angel Dancer (7) won soundly last start and has been backed heavily in early markets from $6 to $4.40. Sea Red (3) from the Robert Heathcote yard always runs well fresh and loves the Doomben track. Chariot of Gold (4) has had no luck this preparation and finally has drawn the rails in barrier 1 and comes back in class here – would not be surprised if he gets out in front and stays there!

Selections: 7-3-4-13 rough chance 2.

*************************************************************************************************

Race 7 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Mile

Flamboyer (3) is in career best form but has not won over 1600m in two attempts. I did tip Harada Bay (5) last start at some good odds and I think it will be hard to beat again here – Luke Dittman is riding again and has been in great form since becoming a senior jockey. Akavoroun (4) was beaten by Harada Bay last start after leading all the way – maybe the change in riding tactics from previous starts may prove beneficial here again. Feltre (7) was blistering winning at Eagle Farm last start and has been freshened. The horse does love the Doomben track and does race well over 1600 metres. Lauterbrunnen (8) has been well found in early markets being backed from $7.50 to $5.50.

Selections: 5-7-8-4 rough chance 11.

**************************************************************************************************

Race 8

Another one of these three year old races again in the last leg of the Quaddie. Two weeks ago I was looking good with a couple of long priced results until Frequendly (5) came along and won the last leg at $51 and blew my Quaddie out of the water. I am going to stay with the horses I tipped in that race – Madotti (1), Quick Ketch (3) who has drawn badly again, Dylan’s Luck (4) and Oberland (6). Colinelle (9) looks an impressive type trained by Steven O’Dea winning well at the Sunshine Coast last start – it has drawn poorly in barrier 16. Man Of His Word (2) has some good form and has been trialling well on the Gold Coast could be another one that could race well here.

Selections: 4-6-1-3 rough chances 3 and 9.

*************************************************************************************************

Quaddie (Races 5 to 8) 5,6,8,10 / 3,4,7,13 / 5,7,8 / 1,2,3,4,6 - cost is $240 to $1

Small Quaddie (Races 5 to 8) 5,6,8 / 3,7 / 5,7,8 / 1,3,4,6 - cost is $72 to $1

Mad Quaddie (Races 5 to 8) 5,8 / 3,7 / 5,8 / 4,6 - cost is $16 to $1

This week in the jockey challenge – Jeff Lloyd again to have a big day with 10 points.

Jeff Lloyd can again have a big day in the Jockey's Challange. I predict he will win the challenge with ten points and look a whole lot happier than he did in the mud at Eagle Farm last week
