WINNO'S WINNERS: ROSEHILL, SEPTEMBER 10

By Darren Winningham | Friday, September 9, 2016

Here I am again, continuing to meet the request of those who have asked for a preview on horseracingonly of the Sydney meetings over the coming weeks.

Just for the record Winno was on fire last weekend in Sydney – with winners – quinellas – exactas – and a few first four results. Let’s hope we can back it up this week! The rail is out 2m for the entire course. The track is forecast as a soft 5 so most horses should not be disadvantaged by the conditions this week.

There are a few Queensland horses venturing down this weekend. Boom apprentice Jimmy Orman reunites with the Kevin Kemp mare Sold for Song when she resumes in the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes at Rosehill. Liam Birchley and Matthew Dunn have a number of runners engaged as well. Oink trained by Kelly Schweida has been reunited with regular rider Paul Hammersley and will be looking for glory in the Group 1 – Golden Rose.

Let’s hope the Queensland horses can bring home some bacon! (I know that is a very bad pun!)

You can tell it is Spring Carnival time with the invasion of all of the good jockeys from around Australia and internationally for the program at Rosehill this weekend ... with the likes of Zac Purton and Joao Moriera coming from Hong Kong to ride.

NB *As this form assessment was made prior to raceday, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.

Race 1

Love’s A Fantasy (3) meets Trinity River (4) again here after being narrowly beaten last start at Wyong. I think the mare may be able to reverse the tables this start with the drop in weight and the return to the larger Rosehill track. Longkissgoodknight (7) is an interesting runner from the Hawkes camp who has brought the mare north from the wet Melbourne tracks – maybe it is one to keep your eye on here in case there are any betting moves.

Selections: 3-7-4-1

Race 2

Dubaiinstyle (3) missed the hat trick of wins last week when it struck a heavy track and was narrowly defeated. Joao “The Magic Man” Moriera has made the trip from Hong Kong to ride some horses on the program for the Chris Waller team and this is the first of them. Salthouse (4) from the Darley stables has had a month between runs and was impressive in its first run in Australia. Antonio Giuseppe (5) is looking for a hat trick of wins since coming from New Zealand and being transferred to the Waller stables – I am not sure whether the wins have been flattered by the recent heavy tracks in Sydney, but the gelding does look promising.

Selections: 4-5-3-8

****************************************************************************************************

Race 3

Bullrush (4) is looking for six consecutive wins coming back from a short let up. Again trained by the in-form Hawkes camp and ridden by their jockey of choice Tommy Berry it looks the one to beat here. Sir Bacchus (1) resumed at Rosehill with a good win first up from a spell. Second up the gelding is 2 wins from 2 starts and the main danger to Bullrush. Suspense (5) has an impressive record – should fill a place here.

Selections: 4-1-5-3

*************************************************************************************************

Race 4

Quatronic (2) from the Matthew Dunn stables at Murwillumbah was impressive winning at Doomben first up from a spell. It has drawn well and is sure to be hard to beat again. Luxury (3) has been running around in similar grade since resuming from a spell – with the engagement of Blake Shinn I give it a real chance. Fuel (12) is the stable mate of Luxury from the Danny Williams Goulbourn based premises – it has some good form prior to the spell. He is resuming here and could be one at nice odd to sneak a place or win.

Selections: 2-3-12-14

*************************************************************************************************

Race 5 - Kingston Town Stakes (Group 3)

McCreery (4) won last start and looks like the 2000 metres of this race will be right up his alley. The danger is Allergic (3) who does like the Rosehill track. Sir John Hawkwood (3) is resuming after a solid Brisbane winter carnival campaign – it has a stable change that should be noted, now being trained at Randwick by John Thompson. The gelding does race well fresh and regular rider Blake Spriggs takes the ride.

Selections: 4-3-2-1

**************************************************************************************************

Race 6 – Golden Rose (Group 1)

This is a tough race with an open field to start the Quadrella. Astern (1) was dominant in his win in the Run to the Rose two weeks ago. It does not have a good second up record but it looked impressive in the return to racing after a spell. Omei Sword (13) resumed in the Silver Shadow Stakes and won well – the filly has drawn well here for this race and looks hardest to beat. Yankee Rose (12) ran second in the 2016 Golden Slipper and then won the Sires Produce impressively – Zac Purton makes the trip from Hong Kong to reunite with the filly in this run. He has a win and a second on her from two starts. Yankee Rose has been smashed in the betting firming from $11 to $6.

Selections: 13-12-1-6 rough chances 2 and 8

**************************************************************************************************

Race 7 – Theo Marks Stakes (Group 2)

Vashka (3) loves the Rosehill track with 5 wins from 6 starts and normally races well fresh. The McDonald / Darley team will be seen here and despite the poor run on returning from a spell at Randwick I think it can win here – it is massive odds at around $20 in early markets. Counterattack (5) is resuming from a spell and did run well in Brisbane over the winter. Southern Legend (9) is undefeated at Rosehill in two starts. It has won 4 starts from 6 runs and deserves to be favourite for the race – I just don’t know how he will shape up against these old proven veterans. If he wins for Les Bridge it probably means it will spring board the gelding into the upcoming spring Carnival. It has been heavily backed from $3.50 to $2.60. It may be a race to stand back and watch.

Selections: 3-9-5-4

*************************************************************************************************

Race 8 – Sheraco Stakes (Group 3)

Now I am not going to let emotions cloud my judgement in this race! This has to be the toughest race on the program. I am going for a rough one here – here goes! Alucinari (8) from the Darley team to be ridden by Brenton Avdulla – it is great odds at $16 and each way I think it is a bet to nothing. It ran well on a heavy track first up and has a great second up strike rate. The stable mate Pearls (1) - I don’t think is a Rosehill horse and will probably be better when it gets back to the Randwick track. For the placings you can go wide with Dixie Blossoms (10) and Ravi (12) both who have a great record. Other chances include Serene Majesty (5), the Queenslander, Sold for Song (7) and Nancy (3) and Denmagic (11) – this could be a nice race to take a trifecta and first 4 and win a motza!

Selections 8-10-12-5 rough chances 3,7,11

**************************************************************************************************

Race 9

Dinghu Mountain (12) is lightly raced and in great form of late. Coolcraft (7) comes off a win at Canterbury and is a good chance in this grade. Fabrizio (1) is going well and was dominant when returning from a spell at Canterbury. It has a flawless second up record with 2 wins from 2 starts and is unbeaten at the 1400m distance. Moher (3) resumes from a short break and did perform well last preparation. Looks well placed with the 2 kilogram allowance for apprentice Andrew Adkins.

Selections 12-1-7-3 rough chance 2

*************************************************************************************************

Early Quaddie (races 2 to 5) 4,5 / 1, 4 / 2,3,12 / 3,4 - cost $24 for $1

Quaddie (races 6 to 9) 1,12,13 / 3,5,9 / 5,7,8,10,12 / 1,7,12 - cost $135 for $1

Value Quaddie (races 6 to 9) 12,13 / 3,9 / 8,10,12 / 1,7,12 - cost $36 for $1

Mad Quaddie 12,13 / 3,9 / 8,12 / 1,12 - cost $16 for $1

NSW BIG 6 (races) 2,3 / 3,4 / 12,13 / 3,9 / 8,10,12 / 1,7,12 - cost $144 for $1

Treble (races 7 to 9) 3,5,9 / 5,7,8,10,12 / 1,7,12 - cost $45 for $1

Jockeys Challenge

Looks like a win to Hugh Bowman. Unlucky last week losing some of his good rides – hopefully can make amends this week.
