MY CALL: WHERE ARE THE COBALT PROSECUTION CHEERLEADERS NOW? THEIR SILENCE IS DEAFENING

By David Fowler | Tuesday, September 13, 2016

David Fowler is the principal thoroughbred caller for Radio TAB. David, who is a keen form student and punter, has enjoyed a lifetime involvement in the racing media. His personal blog, ‘My Call’, appears exclusively on HRO.

Where have the media and administrative cheerleaders for cobalt prosecution gone hiding?

Not a peep from the regular suspects after Racing Victoria officials were put under the full glare of the VCAT spotlight last week.

One by one these “leaders” were grilled and came up woefully short with a litany of procedural errors highlighted.

Nowhere to hide this time.

“Vicious witchhunt or extreme incompetence?” That was one piece of brief but concise commentary. The question is valid.

A zealous rush for prosecution. Hang the formalities.

And again it raised the spectre that the cobalt fearmongering is a cruel hoax.

This “so called” enhancer that has destroyed lives and reputations is like a cancer still eating away at racing’s reputation.

Cobalt cases popping up left, right and centre in all codes in all states and administrators still doggedly delivering the broadbrush verdict of “drug cheat.”

The science is not settled.

The procedures have been a shambles.

Justice patiently awaits.

Here’s a statistic from a reliable source.

There have been 78 cobalt positives and four, yes four, have been winners.

Not the best of strike rates for the cobalt conspirators.

Much has been penned on this website recently about the proposed mandatory penalties for the three codes of Queensland racing.

John Schreck, Australia’s best former chief stipe by a country mile, called it “lazy” and pointed out it could very well lead to an “injustice”, ironically in the pursuit of the opposite.

Website owner Graham Potter delivered similar sentiments.

Worried trainers have pleaded a strong case to judging cases by their merits.

It’s nice when all the hard yards are done for you.

Tick all of the above.

I’m at odds with the jockeys on this one.

They vow and declare the Doomben track was a soft 7 on the weekend.

The times clearly defy such a notion with the race times on EVERY race, comparable to a good 4 or soft 5.

Put it this way, the times can’t be right if it’s a soft 7 and if the times can be right it’s not a soft 7.

Simple.

A victim of a moderate tempo and home straight traffic, she hit the line with plenty of zest in Sydney on Saturday.

Keen to be on her at 1400m next time out.
