WINNO'S SIXTY SECONDS WITH JIMMY ORMAN

Having survived an encounter with Origin rival Jim Byrne in his first 'Sixty Seconds with ... ' interview, intrepid HRO reporter Winno was at it again, trying to distract another Queensland Origin rider with a series of rapid-fire questions. This time he had Jimmy Orman in his sights

What is your role in Racing?

Apprentice jockey – now a senior jockey.

How long have you been riding?

Three and half years

What did you do prior to being a jockey?

At school and was a gymnast and represented Queensland at the Nationals and came fourth

When you were an apprentice, who was your master?

Mum, Caroline Allardyce at Gatton

What was your fondest memory working for you mum?

Riding her first metropolitan winner Iniquity at Doomben

Best thing you like about your work?

Just love riding and love the horses and the thrill of winning

What do you do when you cannot sleep?

I am a solid sleeper so I usually do not have those problems

Jockeys start early in the morning what time do you get up to start work?

Not as early as most, when at Gatton I get up around 6.00am. Now that I have just moved to Brisbane I will be getting up at 3.30am to ride work here.

How do you prefer to be woken up in the morning?

With an alarm (with a massive smile on his face)

Most memorable day in the saddle?

Winning on Sold for Song over the 2016 Carnival and also Choice Bro in the 2016 Weetwood.

Favourite horse or horses you have ridden?

Sold for Song and Choice Bro. Probably early on Victory Hotel that I won the Rockhampton Cup on – I won a few on him – he was exciting.

What was the turning point in your career?

I was battling away and doing my best. Then after I rode my first metropolitan winner for mum at Doomben it all just started to happen for me.

What are you always late for?

I try never to be late for anything.

What activity that you do not do now that you may consider doing when you are retired?

I would like to have a business one day. Just a food/restaurant business something like that.

If you could change careers tomorrow what would you do?

I would be a real estate agent.

What is your favourite music?

I like a bit of everything – a bit of Country and a bit of Rap

What is your favourite musician?

Chris Brown

What is the most embarrassing song on your phone?

One Direction – “What makes you beautiful” – I love singing along to that one

What is your favourite gadget?

My two way whipper snipper that goes real good.

What would you chose as your last meal?

Butter Chicken – I love butter chicken!

Name one person who you want to have dinner with?

Selena Gomez – she is beautiful!

Name one thing you could not live without?

My phone

What is your greatest fear?

Heights

NRL/AFL favourite team?

NRL - Bulldogs

State of Origin time – NSW or QLD?

Queensland Maroons

In reference to the Jockey Origin Series last week – how did you and Jim Byrne go?

No good, but there is two more weeks to go for us to hit back!

Who do you talk on the phone the most to?

My manager, my dad and my mum

What are you grateful for everyday?

My life

What do you like to put on a sandwich?

Ham, cheese, tomato and onion with salt and pepper

What toppings do you like on your pizza?

Pan BBQ Meat lovers with extra toppings

How do you define success?

Hmm, I really don’t know. Still working that one out.

Who is you man crush?

No man crush – probably you Winno!

Tell us something that may surprise us about you?

Nothing, really. I am pretty much black and white – what you see is what you get from me.

If you are down to your last $10 what would you spend it on?

Kebab – I love Kebabs – and it has to be a beef Kebab!
