WINNO'S KILCOY KASH: KILCOY MAY 12

By Darren Winningham | Thursday, May 11, 2017

The Kilcoy Race Club will hold a TAB meeting tomorrow.

The track is rated GOOD – the rail in the normal position and the weather is forecasted to be great!

I will be on the lookout for some 60 seconds with Winno candidates – punters – trainers – and other jockeys – so if you are brave enough to go toe to toe come up and say hi.

Josh Fleming – a famous Kilcoy steak sandwich and XXXX beverage is on offer if you make an appearance courtesy of the Kilcoy Club Chairman Mr Con Searle.

NB: As this form assessment was made prior to race-day, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.

Race 1

Doumbek (3) is first up here for the Darryl Hansen team at Sunshine Coast after a stable change from Graham Pollock. I look at his run when beaten by Tyzone in Townsville in July 2016. The run was full of merit in a high rating race. The previous form suggests that he will race handy and that should suit the Kilcoy circuit. Michael “Muppy” Hellyer takes the ride and he has drawn well.

Brazza Matazz (5) was a solid run last start at Kilcoy on the Anzac Day. The filly should be better for that run at the track and will be ready to perform here.

Intrepid Miss (7) from the strong Chris Munce yards will be ridden by his stable apprentice Michael Murphy. The filly showed some good speed and took up a forward position at Sunshine Coast before tiring on debut. Again she will probably strip fitter for that race experience and, drawn handy, will take up a forward position.

Selections: 3-5-7-9

Race 2

An open field with many first starters here – it may prove beneficial to see if there are any market movers closer to race time.

At the moment I like the Michael Costa trained Caeser’s Secret (4) who won a trial recently at the Gold Coast – the gelding is drawn handy in barrier 3 and looks to be well placed.

Stuart Kendrick has Tiz (12) engaged here. It is ridden by the inform Tiffani Brooker and is third up and you would expect it to be supported in this race.

Hooked a Beauty (10), trained by Ben Robinson, ran a cheeky race here on the Anzac Day meeting when she ran second at around $26. Jason “Hoops” Hoopert rides her again her this week – drawn barrier 2 could show up at a big price.

Selections: 4-12-10-6

Race 3

How good is it that this race has been called the “Get Well Ben Saunders” Handicap. He was one of the track work riders injured on the morning of the recent Weetwood Day and has suffered a serious spinal injury. All credit to the Club for naming this race after Ben.

Liverpool Jane (2) was first up here on 22.4.17 when the mare had a solid run behind Jeptoo. I was in attendance for that meeting and the run was good. This week, second up here, expect another bold showing.

There is a interesting runner here trained by Scott Rodgers at Roma – Erebor (7). It had a stable change and was successful on debut at Roma when well supported at $1.80. It will be interesting to see if the gelding can step up from maiden class to Class 1 here.

Hannah English takes the ride and she comes off an impressive record here at the last Kilcoy meeting where she rode a double on the program – so she will give this one every chance.

Dreamer’s Goal (6) has been racing consistently in recent starts. Back in grade here at Kilcoy but poorly drawn - may fill a place here. I see that Billie-Rose Derbyshire is riding Exceedingly Kool (14) in this race. I put this Grant Arnold (trainer at Dalby) in as an exotic chance as Billie-Rose really does enjoy riding this track at Kilcoy!

Selections: 2-7-6-14

Race 4

Another 800 metre race – just blink and you will miss it!

You normally have to draw inside 5 here or be able to lead to win these types of races at Kilcoy.

Whatever Miss (1) was narrowly defeated last start here by Jeptoo when the mare lumped 61.5kgs in a solid effort. She has drawn a little wide but does have the benefit of a claim for apprentice Sally Sweeney who has been in consistent form in recent months.

The stable mate Jeptoo (7), trained by Bradley Hudson at Oakey, is engaged here again but has drawn out on the highway in barrier 18 and Hannah Phillips may require a GPS to find any position on the track from out there!

Hidden Sequel (9) won here last start over the 800m as well but again has drawn terribly in barrier 16. Brooke Stower partners the filly again here this week but I think that she may be well suited as the run was great last start settling off the speed and burying the opposition in the straight. This may prove beneficial here this week.

Brilliant Diva (11) has a one win for one start record here at Kilcoy. Again this was earlier this year on the Kilcoy Australia Day meeting when apprentice Nick Keal rode the filly to a dominant win. On that day Nick rode a winning treble. I have noted that trainer Helen Donnelly from Beaudesert has engaged Nick here on Friday for the ride. Her last start at the Gold Coast over 900metres in Open company when she ran second was excellent and I think from barrier 2 here she will be the hardest to beat.

Argyll Bay (5), trained by Paul Butterworth and will be ridden by Ryan Plumb, I think will be better suited over the 800 metres of the race this week – watch out for an improved performance.

Selections: 11-5-1-9

Race 5

Again much respect to the Kilcoy Club naming this race the “Get Well Wade Chasholm” Handicap. Wade was the other track rider who was injured at Toowoomba suffering a spinal injury as well. We all wish both track work riders all the best in their recovery and rehabilitation.

Portsea (4) has been in good form of late – normally races handy on the speed as well in most of his runs. Corey Bayliss has been engaged for the ride this week.

I see Brad Herne is bringing Splendid Stryker (3) to Kilcoy. I am confident that coming back to the 1900 metres will suit the four year old gelding. The other factor is that he normally races well in his races when he leads. I think Ryan Plumb will put him handy in the race, if not lead, and he could be difficult to run down here if left alone in front.

Mont De Loir (7) is trained by Lindsay Gough. She is third up and could be ready to show her best form. She can get back in her races and that is the only dilemma I have here at Kilcoy with this one.

Prospecting (6) has a win and placing here at Kilcoy – so I will put him in for fourth place.

Selections: 4-3-7-6

******************************************************************************************************

Race 6

Bobby Be Good (1) has been racing in superior races of late. Looks well placed here and gets in well with the claim for apprentice Natalea Summers. The gelding has had two runs here and has never run a place. That is my only hesitation in putting him them on top.

Jimmy Orman makes the trek up the highway to ride Legs Unbarred (10) who won two starts ago here on Kilcoy Diggers Cup day when Stephanie Lacy took the mare to the lead and was never headed and drove away in the straight for an impressive win.

On that note Stephanie has had another recent injury – she is a very talented jockey and I hope to see her back riding as soon as her injury is healed.

Annihilation (7), trained by Kathy Stabe, ran a nice race at Ipswich last start. I think that he can race on the speed and if he gets placed forward here in this grade could be there at the finish when the whips are cracking.

Selections: 1-10-7-6

******************************************************************************************************

Race 7

Our Jamaica (4) from the Michael Lakey stable dominated here first up from a spell and won the Class 2 race well with Beau Appo in the saddle. Apprentice Adam Spinks has been engaged here for the ride this week and the three kilogram allowance will be beneficial. Drawn barrier 2 I think Adam will take the mare to the lead and see if the others can run her down late.

Savannah Dream (5), trained by Troy Hall, is normally races well second up and is dropping back in grade as well.

Ben Currie is bringing one down from up on the hill at Toowoomba – Blue Star (15). No recent official barrier trial form but I am putting him in as he normally races well fresh. Beau Appo is coming to ride as well so he may be forward enough in condition to run a race here.

Selections: 4-5-15-13

It is another great program put on by the Kilcoy Race Club again this week.

I will be attending with my NSW jersey and clothes as State of Origin is only weeks away!

On that note can you Queenslanders actually field a team this year? All the injuries and bad luck (oh let me reach for the tissues) you have had recently. I am really concerned for you all – NOT!

Jockey Challenge

As a lot of horses do not have jockeys declared at this stage I am not tipping anyone.

Quaddie (Races 4 to 7)

1,5,11 / 3,4,7 / 1,7,10 / 4,5,15 - cost is $81 to $1

Treble (Races 5 to 7)

3,4,7 / 1,7,10 / 4,5,15 - cost is $27 to $1
