SCST SEPT 13 - DOUBLE FOR BRADSHAW

By Graham Potter | Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Sunshine Coast, September 13, 2009.
Track - Good 3. Rail - Out 2m.
Class 2 Handicap - 1400m. Time: 1-25.53.
1 Patmoss; 2 Chi Chi Grande; 3 Red Shadow.

Trainer Robert Bradshaw pulled out a 95-1 winner (on the tote) and completed a race-day double when Patmoss took out the last race on the card. (Mulsanne was the earlier winner for Bradshaw).

Another Bradshaw trained runner Top Resource set the early pace ahead of Costner. Patmoss settled in third and the five-year-old was perfectly poised to strike as Top Resource brought the field into the home straight.

Costner threatened early in the straight as Patmoss was momentarily held up behind the heels of his stable companion, but once Patmoss shifted out into clear running, the gelding responded well under a strong ride from apprentice jockey Michael Hughes to gain the ascendency and kick on late to hold off a wall of horses who were all arriving too late to have a major say in the outcome.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Robert Bradshaw: “No, it’s not about improvement. The other day Kenny Pope rode him and he got caught five wide at the tail of the field. Two runs before that Ian Coombes rode him and he was six wide the entire trip. This time he got to run his own race. The rest is history now.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Mean Machine (S. Katsidis), Academy Pride (M. Hellyer) and Femme Lien (J. Taylor) were all tightened for room between Arizona Sunset (M. Radecker), which jumped outwards, and Patmoss (M. Hughes), which shifted in shortly after the start. M. Hughes, rider of Patmoss, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Bloodhound (B. Pengelly) was slow to begin. Loaded Tycoon (L. Cheshire) began awkwardly. When being steadied in the early and middle stages, Loaded Tycoon had a tendency to throw its head in the air. Arizona Sunset (M. Radecker) was unable to obtain clear running from the 400m until the winning post. Credington (C. Reith) raced wide for the majority of the event. Bloodhound (B. Pengelly) had a tendency to lay in throughout the event.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of Patmoss, trainer R. Bradshaw was unable to offer any explanation other the gelding was obliged to race wide and over-raced at its previous start on 30 August.
