WINNO'S WINNERS: DOOMBEN, OCTOBER 14

By Darren Winningham | Friday, October 13, 2017

DOOMBEN – SATURDAY 14 OCTOBER 2017

The HRO breaking news of Jeff Lloyd parting company with his manager and going alone to book his rides was one of the many stories around this week. Another of note was the Ben Currie juggernaut winning six races of seven at Toowoomba! Well done to his team on a tremendous effort.

Looks like the track will be wet this weekend at Doomben, so that adds a new dimension to the complicated race meetings that have faced punters in recent months.

The track should be rated as “Good” and the rail is in the true position this week.An overcast day is forecast for Saturday with a nine race program scheduled.

NB: As this form assessment was made prior to raceday, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.

**************************************************************************************************

Race 1

A small field of two year olds this week to start off the program.

The Kelly Schweida debutant Jet Spur colt - Mishani Phantom (2) - has been smashed in the early markets firming from $7 to $3.70. Someone must be confident!

I am tipping the Mark Webb trained Miss Ester (8) who backs up from the debut run last week at the Gold Coast. She got back and flashed home late. For mine it was a great run and she will appreciate the 1050 metres of the race this weekend.

John Zielke has Hopes Eternal (1) in again this weekend. He ran well and won the first race of the two year old season at Toowoomba a few weeks ago. With the support for the other runners he has now got out to $2 in the markets.

Selections: 8-2-1-10

**************************************************************************************************

Race 2

Mishani Bullitt (1) has been racing so consistently and deserves a change of luck this weekend. Chris Anderson has elected to put Stephanie Lacy on the colt and take 3 kilograms off his back. I hope that this can get him back in the winner’s circle.

Rob Heathcote has a nice one working through the grades – Zofonic Dancer (4). With an unbeaten record in two career starts he looks well placed here. The stable has been flying of late so I have a healthy respect for this one to make the transition to Saturday grade.

Selections: 1-4-2-9

*************************************************************************************************

Race 3

Rob Heathcote has two great chances in this race – No Annamossity (4) and Takarakka (8). Last start at the Sunshine Coast No Annamossity (4) beat the stable mate home over 1400 metres. Back to a mile this weekend I am tipping that Takarakka (8) will turn the tables on his stable mate.

Don’t Doubt Da Wife (10) looms as a chance as well. Third up this weekend for Tony Gollan and Jim Byrne – she does excel with a few runs under belt. Look for an improved effort!

Selections: 8-4-10-9

**************************************************************************************************

Race 4

Not a race I can get keen on – a No Metro Win race. Leave me out!

For the record I am on the Gary Moore trained Risen (11) who has drawn the rails in a massive field. It ran well in a recent barrier trial at Rosehill.

Girl In a Million (10) is trained by the record breaking Ben Currie and has drawn well here as well. She has been very consistent since resuming and will be in this for a long way.

Ice Frost (14) was unlucky last start at Ipswich – it may pay to overlook that run..

Con Searle is back on the mend since his recent illness and I see that his charge Zouzoukakia (9) has not been following the doctor’s orders and has drawn barrier 20. She will need some luck from out there but, if she can sneak a position and not get too wide, watch her finish off the race!

Selections: 11-10-14-3 rough chances 3 and 9

**************************************************************************************************

Race 5

Nilette (10) has been in great form and if the track is wet she will handle it no trouble. Another Heathcote runner well placed and looks a great chance.

Ben Currie has elected to put Michael Murphy on Now You See (14) this weekend. This mare normally races on the speed and I can see no reason why Murphy will not jump her out and lead.

St Hiliary (12), from the Tony Gollan yards, won last start at the Sunshine Coast. Whilst you may be sceptical about that form transferring to the Saturday grade this mare does love wet and heavy tracks – so I give her a chance if the track deteriorates.

Selections: 10-14-12-2

*************************************************************************************************

Race 6

This is a tough way to start the Quaddie. A pretty open field we have to contend with here.

I am going to tip a Ben Currie trained runner - Mustarrid (9) - who went well last start at the Sunshine Coast. I think the 2200 metres up there was just too far for the gelding – so back to 2000 metres this week I think he will be well suited.

I do like the Chris Anderson trained Sharp Speedo (15) if he runs here. I think the increased distance will suit this Captain Sonador mare and we may see an improved performance.

Explosive One (4) from the Matthew Dunn team looks well placed as well. His effort in the Lismore Cup was good and he gets in well here.

Selections: 9-15-4-10 rough chance 7

**************************************************************************************************

Race 7

Tough race this one – an Open Handicap over the mile – what to do here!

Man of his Word (1) looks well placed here and normally runs well second up.

Lordag (3) is back to a mile here this week. I think he is better suited over the mile and he looks the likely danger. Forget the last start run at the Sunshine Coast and go with the dominant win here over the mile a month ago.

Watch out for a real roughie here – Emphasis (2). This guy loves the mile at Doomben and normally runs well second up.

Selections: 1-3-2-6

*************************************************************************************************

Race 8

An Open Handicap over 1200 metres.

Supreme Effort (4) was going great at the Sunshine Coast and won well. This is his second start in Queensland for Kim Waugh and this race does not look much harder.

Fiery Heights (11) from the Toby Edmonds team is an interesting runner. He has a near faultless second up record with 3 starts, 2 wins and 1 second. He likes wet tracks so if it gets wet then I think he is a better chance and he has the services of the inform Matthew McGillivray.

Too Good to Refuse (5) can normally run well first up and Desleigh Forster is keen to head south for Spring Carnival glory if he shapes up in this run.

Selections: 4-11-5-1

***************************************************************************************************

Race 9

The last race on a nice race program. Seriously, this is a LOTTERY for the last leg of the Quaddie and Treble!

The Chris Waller team has Carzoff (14) engaged here. This gelding comes off some nice Sydney form prior to a 15 week spell. He has been working well at the Gold Coast and he has had two recent trials to get ready for this first up assignment.

Zahspeed (9) was tremendous first up at the Sunshine Coast for his new stable (Toby Edmonds). I note that he goes better over longer distances and I think the 1350 metres this week will suit him.

Raja Ampat (17) is drawn well this week and I think may be one at odds to fill a place.

Selections: 14-9-17-5
