WINNO'S WINNERS: DOOMBEN, NOVEMBER 11

By Darren Winningham | Friday, November 10, 2017

DOOMBEN – SATURDAY 11 NOVEMBER 2017

Well it is Broncos Day at Doomben! I should stay away just in protest, however, I will be there in my Bulldogs jersey!

I bet the Number 1 Broncos supporter at Doomben Josh Fleming doesn’t wear anything to signify he is a Broncos supporter ... being ashamed to ever admit that in public!

The rail is out 0.5metres the entire course and the track is rated good. There are storms forecast for later in the afternoon - that probably means it will be fine and sunny all day!

Now on with the nine race preview. It is a brief preview this week. Enjoy!

NB: As this form assessment was made prior to raceday, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.

**************************************************************************************************

Race 1

A two year old race - many first starters and some that have already had some starts.

John Zielke is well represented again with Rains Aplenty (9) and Rosa’s Charm (10). I don't think Rains Aplenty handled the heavy track last start so it may pay to overlook that run.

I have gone for a first starter from the Heinrich and Rodgers stables at the Gold Coast - Injustice (7). This Unencumbered colt won a trial recently in reasonable fashion - at a massive price of $26 I am backing it in his debut run.

As for the rest of them - anything could happen!

Selections: 7-9-2-11 rough chances 3 & 15

***************************************************************************************************

Race 2

Small field of seven - tough race.

Miss Exfactor (1) was scratched last weekend - looks well placed here as long as she is not hounded in the lead.

If she is taken on Zukaz (3) or Cabin Fever (5) could be running home late.

Selections: 1-3-5-4

****************************************************************************************************

Race 3

Another open and tough race.

Two Shoes (13), first up here, could be some real value at $16. I think this one has some good form and always races well fresh.

Downloading (10) from the Rob Heathcote stables - he is out of the same mare as the wonderful sprinter Buffering - resumed impressively at the Sunshine Coast last start and may just go on with it here this weekend.

You Say No Way (9) from the Troy Pascoe yards ran an exciting race last start here at Doomben over 1050 metres. With the increased distance to 1200 metres this weekend I give him a chance to be running home late.

Selections: 13-10-9-8

**************************************************************************************************

Race 4

Benchmark 75 over 2000metres.

Now let me reach for a magic wand and see if I can pull a rabbit out of my hat!

I think the Matthew Dunn trained two from Murwillumbah have the race between them!

Last start Bronzed Venom (5) was beaten by the poor barrier draw when he drew barrier 16. Amazingly he has drawn barrier 15 this week - so he will need some serious luck from there.

The stable mate Dia De Reyes (7) has drawn barrier 2 and comes off a solid win at Randwick. I think will appreciate the 2000metres this weekend - with the step up from 1800 metres. A good bet this one and with Jim Byrne in the saddle he will be right in this when the judge calls a halt to the race.

Selections: 7-5-4-2

**************************************************************************************************

Race 5

Sylpheed (8) from the Toby Edmonds stables on the Gold Coast resumes from a solid Winter Carnival in Brisbane when racing in superior races. She won a barrier trial a fortnight ago on the Gold Coast, is drawn well and she should be too good for them.

Brooklyn Storm resumed and finished a nice second behind Dream Finish first up. He normally goes better second up and has had a run around in a recent barrier trial - look for an improved run this weekend.

Matthew Dunn has another runner her. He returns to Brisbane after a run at Randwick where he finished a creditable fifth - Delightful Feeling (9), from barrier 1, will be just sitting off the pace and could have a big say here.

Selections: 8-5-9-6 rough chance 4

***************************************************************************************************

Race 6

The first leg of the Quaddie and it is a Class 3 Plate race over 1600 metres.

Don’t Doubt Da Wife (14) has just had no luck - she keeps running second - maybe she can have a change of fortune this weekend.

The Edmonds trained She Goes Pop (10) won well first up at the Sunshine Coast. She has a poor second up record, however, she does have Jeff Lloyd aboard and will appreciate the step up in distance.

Cascata Rossa (4) was well beaten last start at Randwick - forget the run he was hampered in the run and had no luck. With better luck in the run this weekend he will be competitive here. Prior to that outing he was beaten narrowly by Bronzed Venom (engaged in Race 4) and had a win to his credit on the Gold Coast on 20 September - do not let this one get under your guard.

Selections: 14-4-10-5

**************************************************************************************************

Race 7

Class 6 sprint race.

Maybe time to grab some afternoon tea!

There are a fair few early scratchings in this race so the numbers have been reduced dramatically.

Colinelle (3) for the Steven O’Dea Racing team comes off some solid runs over the Winter. He resumes from a 23 week spell and recently won a barrier trial. He has barrier 11 - that is my only concern, otherwise I think he is well placed here and looks the likely winner.

Mishani El Lobo (6) from the Chris Anderson stables just has been UNLUCKY! It is like he has had a black cat cross his path. His form has been better than it reads. I think with the solid barrier trial around ten days ago and a senior rider - well an aged rider (sorry Jim) in Jimmy Byrne aboard this weekend - we could see a dramatic improvement in his form.

Ringo’s A Rockstar always runs well second up. He was solid first up at the Sunshine Coast when beaten by Tarzan - look for him to be surging late.

Selections: 3-6-5-12

***************************************************************************************************

Race 8

The Bronxnation Open Handicap - well I call them the Bronchokers as each year they seem to find a way to choke come the semi final series. Much like my good friend Josh Fleming. He gets in front. He leads. He sends me messages and then …. (cough , cough ) ... CHOKER! Seriously we love the banter and we have been tipping in good form of late so this weekend it could be a victory to either of us!

Now let me start. If the rain comes mid afternoon and the track gets wet or slow or heavy - get on Privlaka (11). He just loves the sniff of rain and mud!

Now if it remains warm and a good track all day I think that Fiery Heights (7) should make the transition from Class 6 grade to Open class with some luck on his side.

Ben Currie has Cantbuybetter (2) engaged here. He loves this track and the 1350 metres. It would not be a surprised to see him pop up here at some reasonable odds!

Selections: 7-2-11-3

**************************************************************************************************

Race 9

We finish off the program at 5.15pm. I will be looking forward to a free KFC feed with Trent Edmonds (your shout mate) ... although he was seen recently smashing a bucket of chicken wings at the track!

I think Super Suave (13) has been racing consistently enough to win this race. He has a strong record with 3 wins and 3 placings from only nine starts I think he will be right in this race. Last start he was very competitive when beaten by Freddie Fox Trot, who looks like he may be a JJ Atkins style of horse next Winter.

I like Worthy Hero (2) as well. It is not often Ashley Butler takes a ride in the city - this alone I think is a good sign that he thinks he can upset the fancied runners in the last.

No Annamossity (6) is back in distance from a mile to the 1350 metres. I don’t think that will pose a problem here as he is racing in fine fettle. Apprentice Ruby Ride takes over this weekend and the claim of three kilograms should prove invaluable to his chances.

St Hilary (13) has drawn wide in barrier 11. He may not be able to lead this weekend but I am sure, with some of the speed in the race, that he will be competitive.

If you want one at massive odds - around $121 - I would be putting in Backbench Blues (3) an ex Hong Kong racing horse trained now by Jeffrey Chan. These horses can sometimes pop up at massive prices when first up in Australia.

Selections: 13-2-6-12 rough chances 3 and 18

**************************************************************************************************

Early Quaddie (races 2 to 5)

1,3,5 / 9,10,13 / 4,5,7 / 5,8,9 - cost is $81 to $1

4,10,14 / 3,5,6 / 2,7,11 / 2,6,12,13 - cost is $108 to $1

Value Quaddie (races 6 to 9)

4,14 / 3,6 / 2,7 / 2,6,13 - cost is $24 to $1

Mad Quaddie (races 6 to 9)

4 / 3,6 / 7,11 / 2,3,13 - cost is $12 to $1

Treble (races 7 to 9)

3,5,6 / 2,7,11 / 2,6,12,13 - cost is $36 to $1

***************************************************************************************************

This Saturday it looks like Jim Byrne has a dynamic book of rides - with any luck he should dominate the program!

Good luck and good punting!
