WINNO'S WINNERS: DOOMBEN, NOVEMBER 18

By Darren Winningham | Friday, November 17, 2017

DOOMBEN RACES SATURDAY 18 NOVEMBER 2017

Well here we go - a big week in Sport!

The Socceroos win their way through to the World Cup in Russia.

I heard some stats on this monumental achievement - 22 matches - won 20 matches and lost 2 - travelled over 255,000 kilometres to achieve this feat over the past 15 months. Now that is some type of effort!

In other news the Brisbane Summer Carnival “heats” up this weekend with the running of the Listed Keith Noud over 1200 metres.

Sadly, I have another commitment so I will be watching on a television in an air conditioned room.

With rain being forecast it is difficult to decide how to do the form this weekend. So what I have done is settled on my assessment subject to the “Good” track that is currently posted. The rail is 3 metres out for the entire course - this should not prove a factor this weekend.

NB: As this form assessment was made prior to raceday, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.

Race 1

We start the program off with a 2200 metres race.

The Rumour File (6) and My Giuliano (3) from the Chris Waller Gold Coast stables both won their last starts. I think that the Rumour File (6) had the most improvement in him and may be the one to follow. Emphasis (1) always runs well and has been looking for this distance and I think we may see the best of him here in this small field.

Bracteate (7) got all the favours last start but the Steven O’Dea trained gelding did win well - up in grade this weekend - but maybe one to follow now he has posted a win.

Selections: 6-7-1-3

*************************************************************************************************

Race 2

We see the two year olds step out here!

Too hard for me – but I am going for a roughie - Donald “Ducky” Baker trains Just Favulous (4) to win. I hear that this Falvelon gelding has been working well on the track. Ruby Ride takes the reins. She has been riding in great form.

The Steven O’Dea trained filly Singular Sensation (5) won impressively on debut at the Sunshine Coast when leading all of the way. This weekend she is drawn wide in barrier 10 and may need a little luck.

Rob Heathcote trains Only Wanna Sing (1) who ran on well behind Ef Troop on debut at Doomben two weeks ago. I think that the winner was impressive and the form from that race could be worth following.

Bryan and Daniel Guy train the Spirit of Boom filly Animal Spirits (6). She won a recent trial at the Gold Coast and has drawn well and may be one to watch if there is any move for her in the markets.

Selections: 4-5-1-6

*************************************************************************************************

Race 3

Winter Bride (14) sees the lethal combination of Toby Edmonds and Jeff Lloyd back together. Last start she led on a heavy track at Ipswich and was run down late. Forget that run - the track was unkind to her. She is better than that. She will race handy this week on the speed and should be hard to get past.

The Tony Gollan team has been in consistent form in recent meetings at Doomben. They have Prue’s Angel (12) resuming from a spell of 19 weeks. She won her first two career race starts before stepping up to some higher grade races. I like this one at odds of $20. She has drawn awkwardly in barrier 13, so apprentice Zoe White will need some luck. I do note she won a recent barrier trial at Doomben two weeks ago.

Conniving (8) from the Matthew Dunn stables resumes here as well - and has drawn wide in barrier 11. Last preparation he performed well in Highway Handicap races at Randwick. His trial at the Gold Coast two weeks ago was solid - in fact I think if he went a little harder he could have won it.

Selections: 14-12-8-3

**************************************************************************************************

Race 4

Not a fan of this race.

Initialize (2) raced well last preparation and is resuming after a 22 week spell. This filly is trained at the Sunshine Coast by Paul H Duncan and has a great first up strike rate. She did have a trial on the heavy track the other week. She just seemed to work well in the trial and I expect her to come out and dominate this field.

The likely danger is Dream Kisses (1). Steven O’Dea trains this filly who is resuming as well. She has drawn well in barrier 1 so there will be no excuses for her this weekend.

Cool Mover (7) is still a maiden, however, I think she has some ability and maybe one to keep your eye on for your exotics.

Solo Melody (6), trained by Bruce Brown, has won her last two starts over 900 metres and 800 metres - she looks like a real speedster. She steps up to Saturday metropolitan company this weekend for the first time. I think she is a chance here.

Selections: 2-1-6-7

**************************************************************************************************

Race 5

Whypeeo (3) is a short priced favourite here at $1.60 for the Toby Edmonds team. This I am Invincible gelding won well three times last preparation – all three times he was ridden by Jeff Lloyd who accompanies him this weekend.

Short and simple ... load up!

Selections: 3-5-1-4

**************************************************************************************************

Race 6

I think the form out of a race last weekend may be the way to go here.

Last weekend at the Sunshine Coast Pressway (13) beat Takarakka (10) and I think we may see the result transfer to Doomben this weekend. Rob Heathcote has made some gear changes to Takarakka (10) to try and get him into that winner’s stall. This weekend he will carry a cross over noseband and winkers for the first time. Maybe this can get him home.

Aqua Vite (7) from the Scott Morrisey stables on the Gold Coast ran here in weekend company a fortnight ago and acquitted himself well. With that run under his belt and a look at the Doomben track he may show further improvement this weekend.

Selections: 13-10-7-9

*************************************************************************************************

Race 7

Manaya (12) can be an enigmatic, however, her win last start at Doomben looked like she was back to her best and the talent she showed early in her career. I am prepared to gamble this weekend that she can go on with that form from a great win two weeks ago here.

The roughie for mine is Drumbeat’s Choice (10) who has a striking second up record with two wins from three starts. I see that Luke Tarrant reunites with this gelding this weekend. He has won and has had a placing on him in three starts.

Privlaka (5) just has had no luck since resuming - last start he was drawn wide and the barrier proved to be the factor in the final 150 metres of the race. The run last weekend when beaten by Frespanol was solid and he should get a much better run this week from barrier 7.

Selections: 12-10-5-13

****************************************************************************************************

Race 8

Well we are here - the feature race this weekend - the Listed Keith Noud.

I am going for an upset and some serious value.

Bidii Babe (7) from the Heathcote stables always runs well second up and does love Doomben. She is around the $20 mark so I am having something on her each way. Last campaign I thought she acquitted herself well over the Winter Carnival with some good runs - if she find that form this weekend she will be right in this.

Brooklyn Storm (10) looked a picture in the parade ring last weekend and he raced up to that those looks and posted a great win in a lower class race. Michael Costa now trains this gelding and I really think that when he puts his mind on the job he is a serious sprinter. Again some nice odds on offer at around $10.

The old warhorse and one of my favourites - Big Money (2) returns to Brisbane. He is trained by Rodney Northam and I see that Robert Thompson is coming to Brisbane to ride him. I am sure that RT will have his spurs on as Big Money does respond well to this from his riders. I know he is an eight year old now - however, he resumed at Randwick with a great run when just beaten by 0.3 lengths. I think he is can continue that momentum he is right in this!

Monsieur Gustave (3) is another runner at silly odds and I think he will race well fresh. Last preparation he won his last two starts and showed that he is a class performer. I think that Darryl Hansen will have him ready to fire this week - but be sure to follow him in the subsequent runs this preparation.

Selections: 7-10-2-3 rough chance 6

**************************************************************************************************

Race 9

This is a tough way to finish the program. It may be well worth while going the field or playing a few runners in your Quaddie!

I tipped Zahspeed (3) last start and he got the job done. I think he may continue on with that winning form here this weekend.

Now the runner that was in sensational form last preparation was Ingeegoodbe (10) who won four starts in a row. This weekend he resumes over the mile after a nine week spell. If they are not fair dinkum here watch out for this Heathcote runner to stand up and run them into the ground.

Belflyer (5) was a super run last start settling back in the field and storming home late. This week regular rider Ben Looker makes the long drive from the Northern Rivers to partner the Grafton trained runner. John Shelton knows how to get his runners ready - definitely one for your exotics!

Selections: 3-10-5-9

Good luck and good punting!
