RHILL SEPT 19 - SO YOU THINK OH SO IMPRESSIVE

By HRO | Tuesday, September 22, 2009

Rosehill, September 19, 2009.
Track - Good 3. Rail - out 6m.
Gloaming Stakes (Group 3 - 3yo Set weights) - 1800m. Time: 1-50.86.
1 So You Think; 2 Gathering; 3 Heraklion.

So You Think cemented his place as one of the best three-year-old’s in the country with an authoritive win in the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes at only his third race start.

With Gathering setting a moderate tempo up front, Hugh Bowman had the odds on favourite So You Think travelling comfortably midfield. When the tempo quickened at the 600m, Bowman asked the favourite to go and the colt worked into the race stylishly and, despite wanting to lay in under pressure in the straight, he had them covered easily. Runner up Gathering fought on well but was simply beaten by a better horse.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Bart Cummings "Well he looks the part. He's only got beaten his second race by a whisker- almost a dead heat, so he's more or less won every race in training all bar one.

“He's got a great heart and got a will to win and that's what makes good horses a little better. That's what makes champions"

Jockey Hugh Bowman "Yeah he's a nice horse, that's only his third start. He only went down a whisker last start in track record time so the form is on the board, but it was nice to see him step up in trip and do it comfortably.

"My horse was always comfortable and I always felt he was going to sprint home very well, but I didn't want the leader to get too far away from me. Horses in front of me were under pressure so I only had one option really. I just got out and let him wheel around the bend under his own steam and he picked up when I asked him to.

“He's relatively inexperienced and he just got the wanders, but I'm sure he'll straighten up later down the track."

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Shadow Buster jumped away awkwardly. Bach was inclined to over-race in the middle stages. Heraklion and Beaveroo both had some difficulty obtaining clear running early in the
straight. A post race veterinary examination of King Sabeel did not reveal any abnormalities.
