RHILL SEPT 19 - MORE JOYOUS JUST ALL CLASS

By HRO | Tuesday, September 22, 2009

Rosehill, September 19, 2009.
Track - Good 3. Rail - out 6m.
Tea Rose Stakes (Group 2) - 1500m. Time: 1-28.71.
1 More Joyous; 2 Melito; 3 Deer Valley.

Having her first run beyond 1200m and jumping from 1100m last start proved to be no problem for the Gai Waterhouse trained More Joyous as she trounced her rivals with a stunning turn of foot over the last 250m.

In a typically slowly run race More Joyous over-raced slightly on the outside of the leader early before settling better mid race. Melito who settled well back made a move around the field prior to straightening, but no sooner had it joined the lead than Nash Rawiller pushed the button and sent More Joyous for home and the filly raced away to score easily giving Rawiller a double in consecutive races. (Rawiller had scored on Lucky Secret one race earlier).

Melito fought on well for second but just lacked the acceleration of the winner, while the others were in a different race.

WINNER FEEDBACK
Jockey Nash Rawiller: "Everything panned out pretty nice. I just wanted to make sure she got every opportunity to do it today. She was a little bit keen on and off throughout the race, but the most important thing was I knew I had plenty of horse when I straightened up. I just tried to more or less count to ten and when I let rip she showed her usual sectionals.

“Melito got probably a neck on me, but at that stage I was very confident I'd quicken very good. (Trainer) Gai (Waterhouse) sort of told me to stay here and make sure look after her. The way she won today I was certainly on the right horse.” (Waterhouse was at Caulfield for the day).

“She’s just all quality ... that’s what I’ve always said. You know I’ve given her Slipper run away (when unplaced nine lengths behind Phelan Ready). It was a wet track. She was a little bit slow away and had to do a tremendous amount of work. So I’ve forgiven her that run. No, she is a very special filly. I’ve always thought that.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Making the first turn More Joyous laid in, resulting in Mirrasalo being tightened.
