SCST SEPT 18 - EXPLORE THE WORLD WINS ON DEBUT

By Graham Potter | Sunday, September 20, 2009

Sunshine Coast, September 18, 2009.
Cushion Track.
Maiden Handicap - 1000m. Time: 1-00.13.
1 Explore The World; 2 Brits Star; 3 Count Fergus.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Kerry Walker: “We were confident coming in to today, but we were worried about it being his first start. He fluffed the start a bit, but he picked up quickly enough. I think he could have a bit of a future. He’ll get a mile for sure. I was pleasantly surprised that he handled a 1000m really. He did it like an old racehorse didn’t he?”

Jockey Matthew Morris: “I’ve been riding the horse in work for a while now. Yeah, we were pretty confident that he could step up to the mark.

“We think he is a horse on the way up. You probably can’t see it on the side-on, but on the head-on you can how much he’s running around and how green he is. He’s got a lot of improvement in him. We hope he can kick on.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Adangertohimself reared in the barriers, became cast, resulting in J. Kropp being dislodged. Adangertohimself was subsequently cleared to race by the club's veterinary surgeon, however apprentice J. Kropp was unfit to fulfil his engagement on the horse. Adangertohimelf was declared a late scratching at 1.46 pm. Trainer J. Johnstone was advised that he must provide two barrier certificates for Adangertohimself prior to its next race start. As J. Kropp was unable to fulfil his remaining engagements, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.

Explore The World (M. Morris) was slow to begin. Pic The King (C. Kearney) began awkwardly. Dream Taker (M. Heagney) began awkwardly, shifting out and making contact with Zadkiel (J. Byrne).

Near the 800m, Explore The World (M. Morris) had to be steadied when crowded for room when inside of Maizway (M. Hughes), which shifted in away from Natural Miss (K. Sawyers), which had a tendency to lay in. Goody Four Shoes (P. Wolfgram) and Shelaq (A. Spinks) raced wide throughout.
