SCST SEPT 18 - TWO-IN-A-ROW FOR HOLY APOLLO

By Graham Potter | Sunday, September 20, 2009

Sunshine Coast, September 18, 2009.
Cushion Track.
Class 1 Handicap - 2000m. Time: 2-08.34.
1 Holy Apollo; 2 Williamstown; 3 Moringa's King.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer John Thomas: “I think he’s got the makings of a good provincial stayer. He shows a little bit and the distance is what he has been crying out for. I think he’ll make a handy little stayer out in the bush.”

Jockey Ron Goltz: “Yeah, I just think that he is a real genuine stayer. In that race it took a lot of riding, but he was doing his best work on the line. I think he’ll go further. If he’s going to win a few races that’s what it will be over.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Gold Gleam began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 1200m, Gold Gleam (M. Heagney) improved on to the heels of Bearhug and had to be steadied. Holy Apollo (R. Goltz) raced wide in the middle stages.

When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of Fubah, jockey D. Browne stated that it was not his intention to lead on the horse however the horse commenced to travel and it was his decision not to restrain his mount but to let it stride. He felt the horse travelled well within itself in the early and middle stages, however when placed under pressure near the 600m, Fubah failed to respond to his riding from that point and, in his opinion, proved disappointing A post-race veterinary examination of Fubah failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
