SCST SEPT 27 - CAPABLE KITSON RIDE GETS PARAMOUNT HOME

By Graham Potter | Tuesday, September 29, 2009

Sunshine Coast, September 27, 2009.
Track - Good 3. Rail - out 4m.
Class 1 Handicap - 1200m. Time: 1-12.10.
1 Paramount; 2 Will Impress; 3 Miss Joburg.

The day produced a big finish for apprentice jockey Alexandra Kitson who landed the second Provincial win of her career when she scored a clear-cut win aboard the Michael Lakey trained Paramount.

Paramount landed in the leading line. The mare was third briefly then went up to hold second spot in the entire sweep to the turn. On straightening, Kitson gave the four-year-old chestnut the green light to go and Paramount wasted little time in following her instruction.

Miss Joburg tried to go with Paramount but her run peaked as early as the 200m mark and that left Paramount with a clear advantage. With two distinctive slaps of her tail between the 200m mark and 150m mark, Paramount seemed to post a warning to any other runner who might try to get close to her - but nobody could and Paramount went on to score in decisive fashion, coming home every bit as comfortably as the official 2.30 length winning margin suggests.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Apprentice jockey Alexandra Kitson: “The race pretty much panned out according to plan. She jumped out much better than we thought she would and she pretty much ran her own race out there in front.

“In her previous races she sort of wanted to lay in and once she found the front here she kinda went, ah, where is everybody? She did start to lay in again. She didn’t lose much ground. I just let her roll over to the fence and she was happy once she was there. I thought she ran a good race.

“Yeah, that was my eleventh winner and I’ve had two provincial winners now. That was my second. The first one was Monashee Dancer at the Gold Coast.”

Patt Duff, trainer of the second placed Will Impress, had a few words of praise for the winning rider.

Trainer Pat Duff: “She (Alexandra Kitson) beat me in the race so she was opposition but, I tell you what, she is a great person. I watch her ride work. She never misses a morning. She works her heart out and she is a good little rider. She deserves her success.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Hotel Of The Stars (C. Reith) jumped out at the start and made heavy contact with Craiglea Capri (M. Radecker), causing that runner to lose ground. Darth (L. Appo) was slow to jump. Vigorlic (D. Craven) jumped away awkwardly and missed the start.

Shortly after the start Sailon Silvergirl (R. Hinricks), Upi Bay (K. Pope) and Ninth Duke (C. Priest) were all tightened between Velvet Sands (O. Turpin), which jumped inwards at the start, and Miss Joburg (A. Spinks), which shifted out abruptly after the start. As a result, Upi Bay had to be checked.

Hotel Of The Stars was inclined to over-race approaching the first turn and shifted out taking Darth wider. Nightswimming (J. Taylor) and Another Heart (J. Kropp) were caught wide in the early stages and raced wide for the majority of the event. Leaving the 200m Darth had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Under The Counter (M. Wood), which shifted in.

Apprentice M. Hughes, the rider of Will Impress, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 400m he directed his mount out into the rightful running of General Birdwood (S. Katsidis) when insufficiently clear of that runner, resulting in General Birdwood having to be severely checked. Apprentice M Hughes's licence was suspended for a period of 9 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Sunday, 27 September, and expire at midnight on Sunday, 11 October 2009.

Jockey M. Heagney, the rider of Donny’s Magic, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 150m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Ninth Duke (C. Priest), resulting in that horse being forced inwards onto Sailon Silvergirl (R. Hinricks), and as a consequence Sailon Silvergirl had to be restrained out of its rightful running. M. Heagney's licence was suspended for a period of 8 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Sunday, 27 September, and expire at midnight on Saturday, 10 October 2009.
