WINNO'S WINNERS: DOOMBEN, AUGUST 10, 2019

By Darren Winningham | Thursday, August 8, 2019

DOOMBEN RACES – SATURDAY 10 AUGUST 2019

Doomben this weekend with the track rated “SOFT.” The rail is 5 metres out for the entire course.

The weather looks like showers for the rest of the week. After my recent trip to the top end and the warm weather I am a little tired – it will be brief this week.

“The Pest” or “Serial Pest,” as I am being called by some, is back in Brisbane!

Well nine races for decision – it is time for my preview.
I would suggest you bet with some caution until the race-day track condition becomes available and patterns of racing are exposed.

NB: As this form assessment was made prior to race-day, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day

Race 1

A small field to start the day.

Not much interest here.

Selections: 5-1-4-3

***************************************************************************************************

Race 2

The restricted Class 4.

Can Toowoomba apprentice Nick Keal ride his first Saturday winner aboard The Tax Accountant – hopefully he can lift the GST off this gelding and the extra 10% should get him home here!

Matthew John Dunn from Beaudesert has two genuine chances - Beau Arrow (1) and The Big Eater (7) who is named after Scott Steele. I think this runner was unlucky last start and did not like 1500 metres.

Selections: 2-7-1-4

*************************************************************************************************

Race 3

Open race with a few early scratchings.

Jimmy Orman rides Italia Bella (8) for Stuart Kendrick first up. Has been trialling well and looks a good each way chance $10.

Lindsay Gough trains a couple of runners here at massive odds that could upset the more favoured runners - Oradonna (5) and Goodonya Sonja (13) who always sprints well fresh.

Rebel Miss (9) is a NSW invader who looks well placed. Resumes from a 25-week spell but won a barrier trial very impressively two weeks ago.

Selections: 8-5-9-10 rough chances 13 & 18

**************************************************************************************************

Race 4

The three-year-old horses go around here.

Xanthus (13) from Dunn Racing at Murwillumbah has been trialling well and I think will race fresh here. He has been gelded since his last preparation where he raced against some nice horses in some good quality races. The recent barrier trial win at Beaudesert would suggest a bold showing.

Les Ross trains Concealed Dynamite (7). She won last start well leading all the way at the Sunshine Coast and is great value at around $21.

Selections: 13-7-4-3 rough chance 1 & 2

**************************************************************************************************

Race 5

The Edmonds Racing duo of Toby and Trent Edmonds posted their first metro win on Wednesday at Ipswich – I think it could continue with their runner here Tardis (1) who looked disappointing on paper last start at Eagle Farm. Back to Doomben this week and with the rail out I think she will get her own way in front and Baylee Nothdurft a winner.

Jardin Rouge (3) comes off a Sydney run where she was not disgraced. Brian Wakefield trains her and despite drawing wide should be competitive in this grade.

Selections: 1-3-9-6 rough chance 14

*************************************************************************************************

Race 6

The Gollan Racing race – can he win the race he sponsors?

He has two good chances in Unlikely Story (5) and All Important (7). Either could see him in the winner’s stalls.

Unlikely Story (5) resumed last start at Eagle Farm and powered home to the line late – I am sure that he would have derived some benefit from the run and he looks well placed.

All Important (7) won a midweek race last start – he may just go on with it now. He will race on the speed and with the rail out he could be the runner to follow.
Desert Man (12), from the Kelly Schweida Racing stables, has been well backed in the early markets. He is fourth up here this preparation and the blinkers go on for this run – keep your eye on this one. Jackson Murphy rides him and his claim will be helpful.

Selections: 5-12-7-8

**************************************************************************************************

Race 7

This race is sponsored by Munce Racing – he cannot win it as he has no runner here!

There are two crucial gear changes here that have grabbed my attention. Galtero (3) has the winkers applied for the first time and Mr Storm (16) has had the addition of blinkers. I think these gear changes are important and should see them feature prominently.

Yamazaki (12) is a Anderson Heathcote Racing trained runner who reserves her best runs for dry tracks and the Doomben race course – if there is no more rain and the track dries out this runner will be in the finish for sure.

Snapchat Girl (7) has drawn terribly again this weekend – coming off a solid win at Grafton.

Selections: 3-12-16-7 rough chances 8,11

***************************************************************************************************

Race 8

This race is sponsored by Kelly Schweida Racing – he has a rough chance to win it with Outraged (11).

Silvera (1) has won his past two starts – both times he has been very impressive. He has paid the price and gone up in the weights and trainer Tony Gollan has elected to claim with apprentice Baylee Nothdurft.

I like Alward (4) to be a chance at $26 to make a race of it. He has been racing in Victoria and Chris Waller has shipped him north to Queensland – he gets his first look at Doomben. Last start there were excuses as he pulled up lame. Overlook that run and with three weeks off and the application of a tongue tie for the first time look for a better effort here.

I have much respect for the Michael Costa trained The Chairman (9) who seems to always throw in a great performance second up. Matthew McGillivray fresh up from a spell rides this one.

Selections: 1-4-9-6 rough chances 10

***************************************************************************************************

Race 9

This last race is a lottery – I think you would have more luck picking the Lotto numbers to win on Saturday night! I think you could make a case for every runner in the field. I may have to look at taking the field with my Quadrellas and Trebles and hope for a rough winner.

Look I have no real preference for any of them here – I have scattered 8 numbers on my kitchen table and picked them up randomly and come up with this.

Churning (16) was very unlucky last start at Eagle Farm and was held up and could not get out. She is down in the weights this weekend and has an additional claim for Corey Bayliss. Looks well placed and with any luck in the straight I expect her to be winning the last.

Impasse (7) and Auerbach (4) are trained on the Gold Coast by Chris Waller. Impasse (7) is resuming and races well fresh – he won a recent trial at his home track in nice style. Some nice odds on offer as well - $8.

Auerbach (4) is on the seven days back up after a good win over the same distance last weekend. Must be respected.

Tawfiq Boy (2) is second up and does have a great record second up and comes off the Ramornie race at Grafton – the form hasn’t seemed to have held up in recent weeks when compared with previous years. Ryan Wiggins who rode over 100 winners in the season last year is a key booking – maybe his mate and QLD sook Will Allam will be at the track to cheer this one home.

As for the rest of them take your pick – there is some value here in the last if you can find the winner.

Selections: 16-7-2-4 rough chances 5,9,14 and 17

**************************************************************************************************

Jockey’s Challenge

Looks like a battle between the apprentice and the senior jockey with Baylee Nothdurft having some great chances on paper and Ryan Maloney also having a nice book of rides. I am going for Baylee this weekend!

WINNO V FLEMO

FLEMO is on holidays. Last I heard he was in Dubbo very unwell firing from both ends! So – as I am thoughtful I got some Gravox express couriered to him to help thicken it up! Hopefully – he gets better soon, and he gets back to enjoying his holidays.
