WINNO'S WINNERS: DOOMBEN, NOVEMBER 9, 2019

By Darren Winningham | Friday, November 8, 2019

DOOMBEN SATURDAY 9 NOVEMBER 2019

Finally, Saturday racing at Doomben! Rail is in the true position – track rated “GOOD” – and the weather is set to be a scorcher on the weekend!

Straight into it this weekend with ten races to be decided!

NB: As this form assessment was made prior to race-day, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day

Race 1

Two-year-old runners start off the day. I note that Jim Byrne rode both Lady Banff (5) and Rising Tycoon (7) in their trials and he has elected to ride the Gollan Racing trained Rising Tycoon (7) – I will follow his lead and tip this one! Gollan has been firing in recent weeks as well!

Selections:

7 – Rising Tycoon
5 – Lady Banff
10 – Trip The Light
4 – Silver Lady

Race 2

Can Tony Gollan win the first two races on the program with Caillini (8) who was scratched last weekend and looks well placed here with Matthew McGillivray to ride? Be wary of the top weight All Eez (1) trained by John Wigginton who will be trained to the minute.

Selections:

8 – Caillini
1 – All Eez
10 – The Wild One
6 – Amorita

Race 3

Soxagon (3) was sensational last start winning over 1400 metres at Eagle Farm – he looks like he has really come up this preparation. Trainer Mark Currie was so happy with the ride from Baylee Nothdurft that he showed his appreciation after the race! (see photo).

Selections:

3 – Soxagon
11 – Red Stina
5 – Cinnamon Missile
9 – Lady Ringo

Race 4

Macewen (5) is looking for a hat trick of wins with Baylee Nothdurft aboard again – he has developed a formidable combination with Tony Gollan since coming to Brisbane. I think this winning combination should salute again! If there is a knockout it is The Fire Trap (6) who won last start at Ipswich and has always shown above average ability.

Selections:

5 – Macewen
6 – The Fire Trap
8 – Trail of Glory
2 – Shogun Sun

Race 5

Tough race this one – Mark Currie trains Shooting Love (2) who has been working through her grades nicely and comes to Doomben looking to post her first metropolitan win. Tony Gollan has Purroni (5) looking for back to back wins after a midweek win here a fortnight ago. I think since she has won over the track and distance I will lean that way – Jim Byrne is aboard.

Selections:

5 – Purroni
2 – Shooting Love
1 – Guntantes
3 – Scathing
Rough chance 8

Race 6

This is an open no metro win race – leave me out! Ok, I am going for Donald “Ducky” Baker to win this race with his nice type Snipstream (2) with Emma Ljung in the saddle. He resumes here after a six week let up and should sprint fresh – but be warned he can get wound up before a race and sometimes will not load into the barriers. Let’s hope he is on his best behaviour this weekend and we get to see those pink duck silks salute at Doomben! Inquiry (4) is trained in NSW by Cody Morgan and resumed with an impressive win at Tamworth – from barrier 1 he will set a genuine pace and lead them. He may just prove too strong in the straight.

Selections:

2 – Snipstream
4 – Inquiry
12 – Power Rush
5 – Paper Trade
Rough chance 9

Race 7

A very strong race Open class over 2000 metres to start our Quaddie this weekend. The Rob Heathcote trained Kubis (1) is a real fighter and could be difficult to run down in this small field if Dale Smith gets away with some cheap sectionals leading this lot. Kevin Kemp trains Fighting Teo (3) who he stormed home late last start at Eagle Farm over 1815 suggesting the extra distance will not be a drama – Luke Tarrant retains the ride. But, watch out - there has been a massive go in the early markets for the Kris Lees Racing runner High Opinion (6) to be ridden by Robbie Fradd.

Selections:

3 – Fighting Teo
1 – Kubis
4 – Bargannon
6 – High Opinion
Rough chance 2

Race 8

Robert Heathcote has two great chances here with Alpine Dancer (7) and Trommelshlagen (10) in the race – both have genuine chances on their recent efforts. Trommelshlagen (10) has the blinkers off for the first time and winkers on – this could be a crucial change. Trevelyan (9) has had 6 weeks off and is first up here over the mile. It may be a tough ask. Barefoot (13) has the blinkers coming off as well and winkers going on for the first time for Tony and Maddy Sears. This could see him reverse his recent form and get back in the winner’s circle. Charmed Princess (12) is trained at Gosford by Tony Newing. She raced well last weekend and looked like she is looking for a mile – this weekend Bubba Tilley is in the saddle.

Selections:

7 – Alpine Dancer
9 – Trevelyan
10 – Trommelschlagen
13 – Barefoot
Rough chance 12

Race 9

No real comment on this race – just the selections. It is open race anything could happen. Could be a blow out so be careful – take the field in your exotics.

Selections:

7 – Maslow
8 – Golden Mean
5 – Dreamtimer
13 – Whodunnit
Rough chance 3

Race 10 The Listed Keith Noud Handicap

An awesome race – but why is it the last race of the day?

I think Tony Gollan has a massive chance to quinella the race with Outback Barbie (3) and Vega One (15). Outback Barbie (3) was astonishing in her two recent trials at Doomben and that would suggest that she will be extremely hard to hold out. Vega One (15) has had two trials as well – his last one this week on Monday. Although it looks disappointing on paper I think he has plenty to show. This weekend with some genuine speed in the race he will be thundering home – Baylee Nothdurft could have a Listed win under his belt!

Stuart Kendrick trains Tambo’s Mate (14) who has been in wonderful form and has drawn well – Matthew McGillivray is in the saddle and looking to keep his winning streak alive on this gelding.

There are some genuine rough chances that I can make a case for here as well – Stella Victoria (12) was great first up and races well here at Doomben and has an impeccable second up record – watch out! Then you have some other runners such as Chapter and Verse (5) for Desleigh Foster who goes well fresh and will be suited by the speed in the race. He has never won at Doomben, but he has put in some courageous efforts here in the past!

Divine Dice (6) has drawn terrible – but he has been trialling well and is massive odds! Snitch (8) is another Tony Gollan runner – a Doomben track specialist that must be respected. I note Robbie Fradd has been booked to ride this one and did ride him in a trial on Monday. Lastly – the Mark Currie trained Publishing Power (10) ran very well after a 4 week break when he stormed home at Eagle Farm beaten under 1 length. He is around $31 and could prove a major upset if he gets some luck in running.

Selections:

15 – Vega One
3 – Outback Barbie
14 – Tambo’s Mate
12 – Stella Victoria
Rough chances 5,6,8 & 10

Jockeys Challenge

Looks like a battle between the veteran Jim Byrne and the young whipper snipper Baylee Nothdurft and it all will come down to the last race – that result will decide who wins the jockeys challenge. Jim may just pip Baylee who will be looking to make every post a winner this weekend as he prepares to start a well earned break courtesy of the stewards – keep them straight mate!

FLEMO V WINNO

FLEMO got me again last weekend in our tipping competition – he seems to only perform at Eagle Farm! I am looking to turn the tables this weekend! Be sure to check the up to date and amended tips each Saturday morning on Facebook after any track changes of scratchings!

Good luck and good punting!
