WINNO'S WINNERS: SUNSHINE COAST, NOVEMBER 16

By Darren Winningham | Thursday, November 14, 2019

SUNSHINE COAST RACES – SATURDAY 16 NOVEMBER 2019

We head up the Bruce Highway this weekend to the Sunshine Coast track. The track rated “GOOD” and the rail is in the true position this weekend.

I must send out best wishes to Toby Edmonds who suffered an injury at the course on the Gold Coast earlier in the week and was hospitalised. I big HRO and WINNO “GET WELL SOON” to Toby and best wishes to his wonderful family!

NB: As this form assessment was made prior to race-day, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day

Race 1

The youngsters are on show here. Not much exposed form either – so it looks a tough assignment. I like the recent trial of the Rob Heathcote trained Dusty Tycoon (7) – she has drawn the rails as well so it shouldn’t be too hard for Dale Smith to jump her out and find his way around the Sunshine Coast track without a GPS!

Be cautious of the two Stuart Kendrick runners – Way Beyond (3) and Trust In Aloha (8). He always seems to have his horses ready to fire at his home track!

Selections:

7 – Dusty Tycoon
5 – Better Get Set
3 – Way Beyond
4 – All Good Millo
Rough chance 8

Race 2

The Gollan / Nothdurft team runner looks well placed here with A Man To Match (3) – second-up off a solid effort first up on this big track. I like his chances.

The locally trained Dawson Diva (7) is looking to post consecutive wins after a nice win at Eagle Farm a fortnight ago – Ryan Wiggins remains aboard.

Selections:

3 – A Man To Match
7 – Dawson Diva
8 – Francisca
6 – So Dapper

Race 3

Kendrick Racing has Coral Bay (1) in this race – 7 career wins – all here at his home track! That is some record. Daniel Griffin takes the ride this weekend. I hope he doesn’t get lost on the way from the Gold Coast!

Selections:

1 – Coral Bay
6 – Prince of Tie
7 – Skytrek
8 – Umberto

Race 4

Advance Warning (9) is my selection here. Forget the last start run – I think the muddling pace was a major contribution to his downfall. This weekend there is some genuine speed in the race, and this should assist his chances.

The likely leader will be Picka Plum (6). Trained locally by Paul Jenkins, she will be ridden by Jimmy Orman. This mare has raced six times for five wins and all wins have been at this track! This is her toughest test to date but If she gets left alone in front and no pressure watch her to dominate this race.

Selections:

9 – Advance Warning
6 – Picka Plum
2 – Sir Banabus
4 – Lord Gododdin
Rough chance 7

Race 5

Kalik (5) is up in grade but my attention has been drawn to this lightly raced gelding who resumed a fortnight ago with a strong win – at big odds of $9 – each way for me!

The Edmonds Racing trained Battle Strike (4) has been heavily backed since the markets have opened – maybe a change of luck for this stable!

Selections:

5 – Kalik
4 – Battle Strike
8 – Dynamic Verse
7 – Combat Kid

Race 6

A tough way to start the Quaddie this weekend.

David Vandyke trains Pinnacle Star (10) who has won three starts at his home track. His run last start at Eagle Farm would suggest he will be right in this race.

Doctor Zous (8) debuts for his new stable - Darryl Hansen. He has won his two barrier trials and will set for a first up win by this stable!

Selections:

10 – Pinnacle Star
8 – Doctor Zous
5 – I Dream of Green
4 – Dreamreacher
Rough chance 3

Race 7

Capital Connection (6) resumed a fortnight ago at Eagle Farm and was fierce in seeing off the opposition. He will probably trail Tarzan (3) who will probably lead the race.

Tarzan (3) loves this track and will be in front for a long, long way.

If you are looking for something to come home over the top of these leaders it would have to be Removal (8) – a change of jockey this weekend with Matthew McGillivray to take over.

6 – Capital Connection
3 – Tarzan
8 – Removal
7 – Meet Mr Taylor
Rough chance 2

Race 8 The 2019 Mooloolaba Cup

The feature race on the program.

Heathcote Racing has Zofonic Dancer (10) coming off a nice win last start over the mile at Eagle Farm. Ronnie Stewart rode him a treat last start and I expect he will be given a great passage in the running here this weekend. I am buoyed even more with the fact that he has won three starts here at the track as well!

Reckless Choice from the Steven O’Dea stables has been flying home without much luck. This weekend Boris Thornton is in the saddle with a horrendous barrier draw (barrier 15) to contend with. Do not despair as he gets back and motors home late! With five wins from seven starts at the mile he deserves to be the early market favourite.

Get Stuck In (13) races well over the mile and should race well again.

The locally trained Victory Eight (15), trained by Trevor Miller, always seems to reserve his best performances for his home track. Jim Byrne has a good association with this gelding – he may be a knock out chance at massive odds!

10 – Zofonic Dancer
12 – Reckless Choice
13 – Get Stuck In
15 – Victory Eight
Rough chances 1 & 6

Race 9

A tough race to finish off the day. Gollan Racing has five runners engaged here. I like two of his runners Sugar Boom (7) and Ingear (8).

Sugar Boom (7) resumed here with a good win three weeks ago – apprentice Stephanie Thornton rides her this start. Ingear (8) resumes here with Jim Byrne in the saddle. Whilst she has had no barrier trials, she looked above average last preparation and I think that she will sprint well.

Steven O’Dea trains Jeweliana (6) who resumes after a 20-week spell. She trialled well recently at Doomben and looked like she had plenty of improvement. Boris Thornton takes the ride.

It could be Boris verses Stephanie in the final 100 metres – who will win?

Selections:

7 – Sugar Boom
8 – Ingear
6 – Jeweliana
10 – Centrefire
Rough chances 1 and 2
