WINNO'S WINNERS: DOOMBEN, NOVEMBER 23, 2019

By Darren Winningham | Thursday, November 21, 2019

DOOMBEN RACES – SATURDAY 23 NOVEMBER 2019

Doomben this weekend with the track rated “GOOD.” The rail is 3 metres out for the entire course with warm weather forecast for the rest of the weekend.

NB: As this form assessment was made prior to race-day, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day

Race 1

The two-year-old runners start the program.

Lady Banff (2) made a dominant debut here two weeks ago – leading all the way and really had no trouble in winning the race. She meets a similar field again this weekend – looks like another win to apprentice Baylee Nothdurft.

Tick Tock Boom (4) from the Vandyke Racing stables at the Sunshine Coast was strong in his debut at Eagle Farm. That was seven weeks ago – he settled off the speed and made a sustained run late over the shorter 1000 metres. I think the extra distance this weekend could see him being a factor here – Michael Hellyer to ride.

2 – Lady Banff
4 - Tick Tock Boom
5 – The Silver Lady
1 – Irish Ring Kicker

Race 2

Guntantes (1), trained by Robert Heathcote, won here a fortnight ago with Robbie Fradd in the saddle. They team up again this weekend. He was ridden further back last start than he normally is and he seemed to relish the change in tactics. I think that Alignment (4) will probably lead this weekend and should set a reasonable tempo in front. That should ensure that Guntantes (1) gets another nice trail and a winning opportunity. Even if there is no speed he can roll forward and lead this lot and be competitive.

Don’t Waiver (2) from the Stuart Kendrick yards will be in the race up to his eyeballs and with the services of Stephanie Thornton he must be respected.

If you are looking for a roughie to knock them all out, I would opt for The Minivan (11) trained by Matt Kropp. He is only lightly raced but will thrive at the mile – keep your eye on this one at $41!

1 – Guntantes
2 – Don’t Waiver
6 – Rebel Rock
11 – The Minivan
Rough chance 4

Race 3

I am not a fan of these distance races.

I am going for some value – Rosendahl Red (8) to be ridden by Adin Thompson who will claim 3 kilograms. The distance will suit this mare and she has drawn well in barrier 3. Look for her to be positioned in behind the speed and handy and at around $21 she represents great each way value.

Checkmate Lad (3) is on the quick back up from last weekend – he raced last weekend as if he was looking for this distance.

Red Stina (2) won well here a fortnight ago – she was in a small field and she was too dominant. I just think in this large field this weekend she may struggle – but then again trainer Rex Lipp and jockey Stephanie Thornton will have something to say if WINNO is wrong!

8 – Rosendahl Red
3 – Checkmate Lad
2 – Red Stina
10 – Equipped
Rough chance 1

Race 4

Another open race.

The Toby & Trent Edmonds trained Maslow (4) won last start here with Ryan Maloney in the saddle. They all combine again this weekend – I am just worried that he has gone up in the weights. But to be fair he probably will be too good for his opposition.

In saying that I like the recent win of Fat Max (6) who is trained by Kevin Kemp. He was ridden last start by Luke Tarrant and he retains the ride for the run here this weekend. The gelding has some unique colour with pink sleeves and a pink cap – I always say real men where pink! I am sure you look as great in pink as you do in BLUE Mr Tarrant!

Actually. I think I will have to wear pink this weekend in case this one wins and get a photo with Luke!

6 – Fat Max
4 – Maslow
11 – Lashoni
12 – Light Up The Room

Race 5

Tony Gollan and Jake Bayliss combine here with All Important (11) who has an impressive second up record. He likes to lead or race handy and I think this weekend with Bayliss aboard he should get a good run.

The two dual acceptors – Maslow (12) and Dreamreacher (7) are in this field as well. Dreamreacher (7) has been scratched from Race 5 so will take his place here and Ronnie Stewart is aboard.

Ashman (3) is looking for a very unique five wins in a row – winning form is always form that should be respected! Stephanie Thornton is riding this gelding and she is looking for a hat trick of wins aboard him this weekend.

11 – All Important
12 – Maslow
7 – Dreamreacher
3 – Ashman
Rough chances 4 & 9

Race 6

A one metro win race to start the Quaddie this weekend – SIGH!

Okay – the two favoured runners have some great form on the board. Let’s start with Constant Flight (1) from the David Vandyke stables at the Sunshine Coast. He has had two months off since his last run and has had a solid hit out in a recent trial – Ryan Maloney to ride and has been well supported – lots to like!

Then you have the Edmonds Racing trained Dream Master (7) who resumed at Grafton two weeks ago and was narrowly defeated in the last bound. He has a wonderful record here at Doomben and a great second up record – he is a definite threat.

Now – I look through the field and I see the Grafton Kirby 2019 winner in the field - Atilla (6) - rained by Sue Grills at Tamworth who has had a bit of luck at the tracks in recent weeks. This runner will settle off the speed and I think the more speed in the race the better the chances of him flying home late and wide – so “Muppy” Hellyer get him out wide and let him balance and gobble them up. Did I just tell him how to win the race? Time will tell! $26 when the markets went up – something to fill the stockings if he can get the chocolates.

6 – Atilla
7 – Dream Master
1 – Constant Flight
11 – Johnny Whitesox

Race 7 The Listed Spirit of Boom Classic

One of our feature races this weekend.

I think there will be some serious speed in the race with the engagement of Ready To Prophet (2) from the Bott & Waterhouse yards at Randwick. She has drawn terribly in barrier 16 and only knows one way to go – FAST! Luke Tarrant has been booked for the ride and he will need to be a magician to get her home this weekend but she has been in solid form and will set up a genuine tempo in the race.

I think that if he gets across and goes hard you will need to find a runner that will storm home late and finish off strongly and that runner is the Mick Lakey trained Enterprise Louise (16), at around $16 this weekend. Brad Stewart was at his brilliant best last start when she won first up after a 15-week spell over 1000 metres. I think that the 1200 metres will suit her better this weekend – down in the weights she is a genuine local chance.

The topweight has been racing in some Group races without much luck as well. Trained at Newcastle by Kris Lees, Miss Fabulass (1) was solid last start at Randwick over 1200 metres in the Group 3 Nivison. She ran the fastest 800 metres of the day. I think third up and Andrew Mallyon to ride – she will be in the finish for sure!

Matt Kropp trains Spirit’s Choice (6) who comes off a Melbourne Carnival campaign and returns to Queensland. Her last start down the Flemington straight in the Group 3 Begonia Belle Stakes was solid – she missed the start, gathered speed and then took up the running and stayed on well late. She has drawn well here this weekend in barrier 4 – if she gets out and can sit behind our likely leader, she will be super hard to beat. Matthew McGillivray is in the saddle and he has won two times previously on her.

Skate To Paris (4) resumes from a 21 week spell and has had the benefit of three trials. In the last trial she ran a nice second to Outback Barbie who was sensational winning here a fortnight ago. That is great form for this – if she gets any luck in running apprentice Justin Huxtable could have his first Listed winner in Quensland at the massive odds of $41.

16 – Enterprise Louise
1 – Miss Fabulass
6 – Spirit’s Choice
4 – Skate to Paris
Rough chances 2 & 17

Race 8 The Listed Tattersall’s Recognition Stakes

I think you must go with the form out of the Listed Keith Noud here a fortnight ago that was won by Outback Barbie.

Tambo’s Mate (10) has drawn wide in barrier 12 and was solid last start finishing second to Outback Barbie as she stormed past him in the final 120 metres. The only concern is whether he will run a solid 1350 metres.

Vega One (13) was working home late well last start in the same race – he will thrive at the longer distance – has drawn well, a smaller field as well will suit him, and he goes well second up. I like him to post a great win here! Tony Gollan and Baylee Nothdurft just keep winning races – this is there chance to win a Listed race together!

The Snowden Racing runner Signore Fox (4) is resuming after a six-week let up. He trialled well on Monday this week at Hawkesbury and will be hard to beat. Mark Du Plessis has been booked to ride for this powerful stable.

Deep Image (6) from Heathcote Racing – what a win last start. Drawn the widest barrier – began well and went to the lead and then held them all off in the straight. This is a step up in grade – but WOW – was that a win last start!

13 – Vega One
4 – Signore Fox
6 – Deep Image
10 – Tambo’s Mate
Rough chances 2 & 7

Race 9

The last race on a great day of racing.

Class 6 over the mile – I think you would want to be in front coming into this race – keep your wallet loaded (let’s hope) and maybe sit back and watch this race!

Get Stuck In (2) was a little unlucky last start – he was caught wide early and still managed to work home late to get beaten narrowly.

River Flyer (15) is trained by Les Ross. Last start at Eagle Farm he led the whole way – some may have even said on the post – but was beaten in a photo. This weekend, with Adin Thompson on, he will lead them again and in the big field may just get his own way in front and be too strong for his opposition late. He did run some good time last start so that holds him in good stead for this race.

Brains (4) was unlucky last start going down in the final stride as well when beaten over a mile here a fortnight ago – I remember jockey Matthew McGillivray looking across at the fast finishing runner with contempt as they hit the finishing line!

Barefoot (10) has had some recent gear changes – if he turns up this weekend he will destroy this lot!

2 – Get Stuck In
15 – River Flyer
4 – Brains
10 – Barefoot
Rough chances 3 & 7
